Samsung May Be Looking At Some Trouble

I really hope Google steps in and knocks apple off there little pedestal. There is a reason Apple never directly attacked Microsoft that's simply because Microsoft has more money.

Not entirely true...It was said a year or so ago that Apple actually has almost as much cash on hand than the U.S. government does.

This lawsuit is more about Apple stepping on the "little guy" to prevent him from becoming a valid competitor...which Samsung kind of already is when you see their profits compared to Apple's for phones...

Apple has huge cash reserves. Like one of the top companies. Steve jobs famously said he'd use every last cent of it to crush android.

It was predicted last month that apple will have over $200 billion dollars of cash reserves by the end of next year.

I saw that somewhere but was curious if that was a valid statement he made. He never seemed like the type of person hellbent on destroying a competitor. But I wouldn't hold it pass him to protect his baby as he did love Apple a lot.

Hey Rxpert83 :D

You're not too familiar with apple's tendency to quench competition then :p

By any means necessary.

Apple's PR department does a great job of making itself look great.

Now with 100 billion dollars in cash on hand you'd think they could afford bringing some of those jobs here to america instead of factories in China where the workers have huge suicide numbers.

They didn't go after Android. While I hate the lawsuits, after I saw some of the stuff I think Samsung did copy apple.

If they just used stock Android there wouldn't have been these lawsuits, and they still would have sold the most phones... Probably even more.

This case was not Apple vs Android it was Apple vs Touchwiz (Android based software).

Its sad, here in the UK the tech press was predicting a win for Apple because the trail was on its home turf. One wonders if the result would have if the trail had been held in another State. When UK Courts found against Apple, there was some stupid remarks on US blogs about how we were happy to hand technology over to the Far East. No mention of the fact that Apple chooses to manufacture in a secret Chinese factory (goodness knows what goes on behind those closed doors), and yet charges prices that you would expect if their products were manufactured in the US. Madness

Won't be buying any Apple products, can't stand them.

But Samsung does get as close as they can to those patent infringements. Have been for a long time now. It's no coincidence that the best selling android phone maker has keep its product close to the iPhone in many ways. Yes Apple is frivolous, but anyone who says Samsung hasn't been copying has not been paying attention.

Completely agree. The rest of the android world is being tarred with the same brush. I can understand why apple are a bit cheesed off. But then, where do we draw the line? If other smartphone manufacturers come up with amazing new this & that, apple would have hijacked it and/or claimed they got there first.

We look to dev teams for custom roms that are different; we look to manufacturers to behave themselves & not take liberties! I wouldn't buy a samsung precisely because they look like iphones, but I'm only talking about a quick glance at the form factor. Other people like moto or HTC have their own form factors.

Whenever I read about samsung phones looking like iphones, I look at my Galaxy S3 with a puzzled expression on my face and think "what the hell are they talking about?" It doesn't look anything like an iphone

The international (and some US carrier variants) of the Galaxy S1 looked similar. The GS2 also looked somewhat similar. They decided to go with the nature theme on the GS3, which Apple doesn't, so it's not something they can sue on.

I also merged a few threads together that were discussing the same topic. Sorry for any confusion.

I know of one company that will never get any of my money again. Apple.

Apple has never got any money from me ever since I ran into that POS Quicktime. I don't like the attitude that they know best. MS has torked me off for the same reason.

I don't think my Nexus S looks anything like an Iphone. I can't really tell anyway. Most of the phones have those rubber cases on them so you can't tell what they are. Part of that is Apple's fault anyway. Didn't Apple hand out free bumper cases to fix the antenna problem? That might have started the fashion trend.

Maybe all of this is true or not.
But from my prospective as an average consumer, I would now hesitate on purchasing a new Samsung phone just because of all this uncertainty. I wouldn't be sure if I would get the kind of product support I would expect. This is the kind of climate that any company can do without, that being negative outcomes for them in a court of law. I've come to realize that the truth is no longer relevant, but the appearance of it.

Posted by a patent attorney in another forum.

"This case will absolutely be tossed out on appeal. in their infinite wisdom, samsung's attorneys didn't bother to challenge apple's patents on the basis of not being directed to statutory subject matter. (oh, hi, forgot to mention, most simple software patents, the kind you hate, are now actually no longer patentable due to some recent cases).

The CAFC (patent appeal court) will raise the issue, toss out apple's patents.

This case is a very long way from over.
I wasn't aware that a company could patent a rectangle.

I love the part where Apple claims people bought Samsung tablets although these people wanted an Ipad. Really? How do you not know which tablet you're buying? The box is labled Samsung, the logo on the device says Samsung, just idiotic. Every big box store that sells Apple stuff has a big Apple display area or even a separate section.

I'm not a hardcore Android or IOS fanboy. I've owned Iphones and have an Ipad II and a couple of Ipods as well as a Lenovo thinkpad tablet and an SIII. I do prefer Android because you can customize Android to your liking.

I understand Apple is a U.S. company and people should have the right to protect their technology but Apple has really become what I hate about big tech companies, greed, stomping out competition and stiffling innovation. Also considering 12 years ago Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy and Microsoft stepped in and wrote them a nice big check. You'd think that would be humbling but I guess not.

Definitely going to think twice before buying another Apple product or downloading another app off Itunes from now on.
