Now that we've seen the iPhone 5, its time to unleash a newer, leaner, meaner Nexus device!

OK so I watched the Apple live blog from San Fran and have to say I'm not impressed at all. The 5 is pretty much what many have speculated it would be...A taller iPhone 4 with LTE! Either way, I'm just not impressed with the device from what I saw today, many will flock to buy it just to say they have the latest and greatest from Apple, I'm not one of those people. So now onto the point of this thread.. Its time for Google to unleash something that will blow us all away...And honestly in my eyes, now is the perfect time!

The Galaxy Nexus was a fine phone, however it did have a few quirks, however all in all...it functioned very well, and Jellybean made it lightning fast and buttery smooth.

For the next Nexus I think it needs to be a little more then a developers phone and left out of the hands of carriers that do not understand what a vanilla Google experience is all about.

As for the device itself...

First off I'd like to see a device that is relatively the same size as the Galaxy Nexus, maybe a tiny bit thinner as far as thickness goes, with better battery life, Gorilla Glass 2, a quad core that plays well with LTE, a Super Amoled + 720p HD screen without pentile, a much better internal speaker that doesn't have to be heard in just a quite room, and improved noise cancellation with a louder earpiece. Couple all that with pure Jellybean, and project butter and I'm sold!

A pure Google device like that will surely make many of us Android heads very excited, and hurt the feelings of anyone using the iPhone 5 with specs that we've been seeing on Android phones for a while now.

For that quad core, how about a snapdragon s4 pro. That should play very nice with lte and most everything else and have a good gpu and awesome cpu. Thought I am pretty sure the iphone 5's gpu will still beat even the adreno 320 sadly.

Also I think we should aim for an improved camera. Add some good image stabilization and maybe a sapphire lens like apple did, it speaks quality and sounds good, and all the better if they push that sort of marketing along with making sure it is backside illuminated just like how some cmos sensors are becoming and how the iphone is. It might be a shame to use similar hardware, but it would be beneficial overall.

Also they should make sure the back plate is full body like the gs3 so an extended battery doesn't add an awkward hump to the phone, but just makes it thicker all around

Oh and they need a micro sd card slot to make the phone feel open and seem as if it has options, the exact opposite of a locked in stuck in the mud apple.

Oh and a camera button on the side of the phone would be nice, I never understood why that feature was done away with in most phones. It really is quite convenient, and would let the whole glorious screen be used as a viewfinder and let the phone be held more like a camera for pictures. Then a tap of the screen could bring in options just like how it does for video on youtube and other apps.

Also I'd personally be happier with a 5" screen, but don't think we'll be seeing anything like that in a nexus anytime soon.

my next nexus needs better camera, battery life, tougher screen, sd slot. improved processor would be nice, it's plenty fast now.

iphone 5 hit it out the park for their crowd. brings them closer to stuff we've had for a while. curious about its lte battery life though, could be an edge over lte android phones.

I don't want a skinny phone and I don't want a bulky phone. I need a phone that feels right. I think that the 4.5ish range for size is great. My 4.3in Thunderbolt could be a little better, but my 4.65in Nexus could be a little smaller. I don't want something paper thin, I want some heft and bulk.

I want a screaming fast CPU/GPU combo. I agree that the Spapdragon will give us that as well as work with LTE technology. While it may not be the best GPU, it still trucks along pretty well. We need to remember that Intel is trying to move into the mobile market, too. I'd love to shove a shrunken i-7 into my phone, no doubt!

I don't want an SD card slot. I don't care about it. I want fast onboard storage and a bunch of it. I have 25 gigs left of my Nexus. The only way you will need more than 32gb of space is if you plan to steam HD movies or store a bunch of music. If that is your focus, just get a media player device and skip the contract price gouging.

I don't care about the camera, as long as the parts are solid and we use the right stuff. No more super cheap, poor quality sensors and lenses. I don't need a 16 megapixel picture that looks like garbage! Give me something cleaned up looking at a reasonable resolution. I don't need 1080p video recording. Most of this is gonna end up on YouTube or on a home video. I don't need super high def shaky cam of you kicking yourself in the nuts playing hacky-sack.

I want the phone to sound good. You know, like a phone should. I want the speakerphone to sound good, too. I want to be able to understand people on speakerphone AND over the phone. I shouldn't have to get a Bluetooth headset for calls to not sound like garbage. This is a PHONE. If you want an iPod, go buy one. If this thing can't dial out and make calls, what use is it?! This is a smartphone, not a PDA.

MIMO is important. Hopefully Amazon and Apple have made that very important. LTE should be a no-brainer. Focusing on better, strong radios will go far on ensuring the customer experience is top notch. We all know how painful weak signal and radio issues are.

Soft keys and a camera button would be awesome. I miss my old camera button. I find it hard to steady my picture when I am tapping the screen while holding the camera still. It's kind of frustrating. I am a huge fan of the soft keys, though. I like how in some apps they get out of the way and show up when I need them... I wish there were way more. Let's get to work on those!

And finally.... BATTERY. I don't need a sweet looking back, I need a phone that will last me the entire day while I am using it. I need a really battery that has enough power to withstand some torture. I can easily go all day on my phone, but I'm not putting it through the ringer. I want to have confidence in my batter. I want to feel like I can use my phone longer than plug to plug because it is a powerhungry monster.

Is there a forum for the new Nexus phone? If not, perhaps the mods could start one, with the provisional name 'Superior', the Nexus Prime thread was a busy one around this time last year.

That thread was rocking this time last year! I like the whole Superior name thing, if Google or anyone was following suite with codenames in the way of Transformers they could also go with Sentinel Prime Nexus...I doubted but pretty cool name scheme...lol

For camera button, try Camera ICS plus. You can set a volume key to take the photo.

Edit: I think there's now Camera JB plus. Kind of sucks that they made a new version since it's a paid app, there is a free version, though. Not sure if it has the button capability.

But then you still get stuck with the camera button on the screen wasting space, and you still need the camera app to be on one of your home screens wasting space or go all the way to the app drawer just to open the camera. Having a dedicated camera button to open the app is extremely convenient in my experience, and for a pure nexus device would allow google to make the whole screen a viewfinder which would be much cooler imo.

As for the release of the next Nexus phone, there was plenty of rumor last year. This year, almost nothing. And there won't be a new Nexus any time soon.

Keep in mind that Nexus devices are designed for Google's new OS build. And that build, Jelly Bean (4.1) was already released. The new phone wasn't even a phone at all.....it was the Nexus 7 tablet.

We won't see a new Nexus phone until the next build gets released. Who knows what it's going to be called, but I like saying Key Lime Pie (4.2). I doubt we'll see KLP until mid next year.

im hoping for a motorola nexus device.... i will pay full price for one of those. other than that, i wont worry about it

I think many of us will end up paying full price just to keep unlimited data.....regardless of who's making the next Nexus.

That's not necessarily true. The Motorola Droid launched with Eclair first. The Nexus One was released a few months later, also originally running Eclair, though it was the first device to receive Froyo, if I'm not mistaken. I don't see them holding out on releasing a new phone just because they won't be releasing Key Lime Pie anytime soon. I didn't even think we'd see Jellybean so soon after Ice Cream Sandwich, but they were ready to release the Nexus 7 and went ahead and did it.

but it is september.... where are the rumor mills at? the galaxy nexus(prime) was rumored well in june or july.... why are these rumor mills not coming up?

just confused about that is all

True statement^^^

I think it was August even when we first started hearing rumors about the GNex being on VZW.

I'm never owning another Samsung phone again. In fact i'm not planning on buying another Android phone anytime soon. I'm actually buying the wife the I5. Go ahead i can take the flames.

Lmaooooo...hahahahahaha! Come on brother, don't be so down on Samsung, we had so much fun in the Prime and Galaxy Nexus forums last year...

However, I'm just really hoping that Google is being really quite and becoming better at keeping secrets then apple!

I think we'll see a minor Nexus update, in the style of Apple. There are a few rumours out there, but I have to agree, it would be a bit weird of them to release a Nexus without a OS bump.

A 'Superior' Galaxy Nexus? Rumored specs for refreshed flagship appear online | The Verge

I think the hype and hunger for a new Nexus is much lower than it was last year, which is perhaps why we're not seeing the rumours. The S3 has only just launched and there are lots of similar high end Androids hitting the market every other week. Coupled with the fact the GNex is a damn good phone, people just aren't desperate for an upgrade.

Nahhh, its been a year already! Time for new and improved hardware, along with some long awaited improved specs...I for one really like the Nexus, but the reason I'm using an S3 right now is mainly because of the improved battery life over the current Nexus, along with a much better camera, and an internal speaker that's just ridiculously loud.

Having a camera button on such a light device often causes movement when the picture is taken, thus causing blurring. With the sub-par camera we have in the current Gnex, I am very happy that the picture is initiated from screen.

Honestly, I'd just want a Note 2 with stock JB, which I'm sure devs will have cooked up in no time.

I'm with you on liking the Note 2, but even with my Big Paws I found it a little to hard to carry around the first Note all day. Granted I only owned it for about 2 months, and it was an awesome conversation gadget.. lol
But I just find that the sweet spot for me is probably the GS3 as far as screen size goes. Jeeez, my GS3 feels smaller to me now that I'm using my Nexus 7 so often...lol

Well my droid 2 global which too much less blurry pictures than my nexus which can't even go without flash in broad daylight disagrees with you. Plus pressing the screen would move the phone more I would think, and many compats point and shoots are very lightweight just like these smartphones and they don't have any problem avoiding blur.
