Root [BIN] VV5 + CWM - Need testers

I looked back, Sammyz said he used uptest to pack it. You didn't get ahold of the program Kanaida? Goodluck!

I hadn't noticed, but it looks like it's the same utility that encrypts the kdz. I think I just need the right steps to click etc... I think it's dragging the bin into the left hand side or something along those lines.

I've been playing with another way though, seeing if I can mount the /system ext4 partition directly out of the BIN file by specifying offset parameters etc... In theory I can mount it to a folder on my ubuntu box, then just copy all the files out, copy the su and superuser.apk to the right places and then replace the ones in a VV3 CWM zip so we can just flash it the ordinary way.

All the bin's for the different offsets are all in my original post. Sammy had converted it to the kdz because I had no way to flash a bin directly that I knew of. So you should be able to try the files in my zip directly with that tool, assuming it's the same BIN format. If it's not the same format, chances are the program would freak out reading the header and just not flash it.

If someone can get me the kdz files I will flash my connect. I would love to have vv5 rooted! I don't think we will ever have cm10/jellybean on this phone. I had to go back to zva to get rid of that phone app error and I hate zva! Let me know when you get all the bins converted to kdz and I will flash them but I will also need the .bat file to push superuser also. I have already wasted 20+ hours on my phone doing this http://androidforums.com/connect-4g-all-things-root/734818-vv3-vv4-no-longer-works-no-more-root.html so I don't mind doing another 20 hours if I can end up with vv5 rooted! Woohoo!

Not yet. I guess there is a risk of bricking, so trying this on a DD isn't worth it. My Connect is just sitting on my desk collecting dust. It's either test Kanaida's stuff or look for a data fix. I'm not sure what I wanna do yet.

Hey Sammy would it be worth my time doing a system dump of boot loader, recovery, system etc in case I smoke this phone? If that happens can I restore it with a tar?

Would be a waste of time. I already have paritions of almost any LG phone.
And only reason i told you to do it with premia was if there was a way back into fastboot you could unbrick

The user z80cpu is saying that vv5 is for the Esteem phone, true or false? I put vv5 on my Connect and it worked fine..... So if it is for the Esteem is their a root for that phone? Maybe it will root this vv5?

The Esteem has a totally different chipset then the Connect (1GHz single core / 1.2GHz Dual core. Flashing Esteem firmware to COnnect or vice versa would most likely be a brick.

I also tried the only AIO root kit I could find for the Esteem, no dice. Same errors you get with any other root kit I've tried with VV5....
