Root Random Reboots and Lost Data

It's been a month since I rooted my phone running the latest version of JB and a week ago I noticed that my phone was off even though I had not turned it off. Pressing the power button didn't work so I pretty much held down volume down and the power button for 5 minutes before finally my phone turned on. Around an hour later it started to reboot a lot, probably around 4-5 times. This has been going on for the entire week. Just now I turned on my phone and I was greeted by the initial setup splash screen (the one you get when you first turn on your phone). I decided to reboot my phone and when I turned it on all of my settings had been reset. (App preferences, default launcher, etc) Is anybody else having this problem?

Also, it's been overheating a lot too when it's in my pocket and on Wi-Fi/4G/3G. Has anybody else's phone been overheating.

Oh okay. Honestly I'm not really sure what the problem could be if you're stock, I was just asking because I had this problem on a 4.2.2 ROM. From what I gathered from my issue, when my phone locked up and I rebooted it, the cache or data was partially wiped, since it wasnt a safe shutdown. To be quite frank, the overheating could be caused from a lot of things, mine happened to be from the GroupMe app I was using. But since you're having so many issues on stock, I'd say return it for another one if you can. Definitely not a normal thing, my phone ran cool and stable on stock.

I had similar problems with overheating and reboots. After rooting my phone I was able to determine a solution which resolved both problems.
Your phone over heats when it is running too many things at once. The system is constantly trying to run and remove apps. By reply increasing your delvik cache, you signal scan intervals and allowing automatic purge of memory, this will resolve the problem. This can be easily set on a rooted phone with the app PimpMyRom from Google play. These changes worked for me.
As far as JB Roms some phone are not powerful enough to run the latest JB, unless the ROM developer does major tweaking which may diminish JB all together. Feel free test out tweaks at your own risk. Keep in my whenever making changes there is always a chance of creating a paper weight with you device aka brick.
