New Google Play Website

Merged the two "New Google Play" threads. Any problems PM me. :)

Great...anyone answering the question in that thread?
Seems to be venting and nothing more.

Yeh...it's venting...don't think we can do much else at the moment. If enough people are venting and are vocal about it, and write to Google or their Congressman or whatever, perhaps Google might pay attention and fix it.

How to filter reviews - by device or rating?
How to find permissions needed?
The new layout is horrible.

Make sure your device is set up for the web Store, then, just like the app, tap Install.

The popup will show permissions a you may cancel rate than install after viewing.

If you're curious about an app's permissions and it's not compatible with your device, I don't think that you can get there from here.

I don't know - I guess the case can be made that you're forced to view permissions before installing.

I just have something personal against pushing a button that says install before I'm sure. Today it shows permissions, tomorrow I'm a sissy-ninny about that way because how do I know?

(Yeah, I'm calling myself that name so there's no confusion among those not uneasy as I am.)

As for how to filter, not sure.

Only hoping that they'll keep updating from here and accomplish whatever their goals are while accommodating us too.

Wow... im not a huge fan of the military (im cool with hunting if its for food) but i love camouflage! I really love my black UAG case but if they had a camouflage one.....

I haunt accessories threads. :)

Sometimes you find something you like, not for your model, and you can drop them a line and ask. :)

I have to be honest, the new website looks like it was made just like the app it looks like the app. less like a desktop web site and more like a mobile website for mobile devices. so I am visiting this on my Nexus 7 tablet. as long as its functions very well and the looks are appealing. I don't see too much bad and the new website everything changes that's a good thing

Review Filters Are Gone, Along With Pagination
The previous version of the Play Store had sorting and filtering options for user reviews, but that appears to be gone now. You cannot choose to only see reviews from a certain device, star rating, latest version, or any other criteria. This is especially annoying if you're trying to find other users with your device to see if they might be seeing the same bug you are.

You have a good point. I hate it when they take away features on a website in return for design.

The new apps alone (Gmail, Play Store, Yahoo! Mail's latest update, new dolphin browser ) just turned my Nexus 7 into a Nexus 4 with all the oversized elements. Oh, it is functional still, I'm trying to give it a chance, but I still hate pastels. Even in Windows 8 you can change the colors. Sad thing is before long all apps will look metro-ish and pastel. All we will have left is the launcher :(

FYI they don't exactly take things away, they just hide 'em and never tell us where they hid it. Often one has to be lucky and stumble upon it with a gesture of some type. I recently figured out how to select email within Gmail by tap and hold, as they removed the check marks

Oh, but it's the fashion. It's new and exciting! We just learned how to code it. New users need their hands held.

One site just hid the logout button. Since there are a lot who don't appreciate stuff like that, the solution was posted. Thank the powers that be for NoScript!

Google thinks new users need to find it for themselves and having it happen as a surprise, like when you buy a new car and hit the button for "head-up display" and react "wow, didn't know it did THAT!"

Honestly I don't mind discovering new features hidden in the apps, I actually am very interested in the surprises. Just get rid of the CGA style large buttons and pastels.

Something I noticed yesterday, along with all the other changes, Google Plus is now available in China without having to use a VPN. Which presumably means it's going to be censored and monitored, and the government has full access to it.

I'm definitely getting the idea that Google is trying and wants to increase it's presence, and do more business in the PRC. There's something like 700 million Android devices, and increasing rapidly. Apparently half the population now has an Android, like phones, tablets, netbooks, TVs, HDMI dongles. There's a huge Android app and game development industry, mostly in Beijing. That's why we have all those free(often ad supported) apps, launchers, browsers and games that come from China. A lot of iOS software also comes from China.

Found one pleasant surprise in all the new crap, at least.
https://play.google.com/apps
MUCH improved! Instead of having to click through endless pagination seeing only a few apps at a time, all my apps are listed on one page, with a bit of their description text.

...of course they did remove some functionality -- the separation of apps on my account vs. apps on each of my Android devices.

Weird thing is this is actually broke for me. Has some apps I never downloaded, and is missing I bunch I downloaded off the store.

The previewing screenshots section in an apps page has to be the biggest fail I've seen in a while. try to scroll through the shots, and it blows up to an oversized version that hangs over to the edge under the left right buttons and I cant even see it.

this is on a laptop with firefox.

Good point. I didn't try to check for that, I just saw a huge long list that didn't require me to click "next page" a million times or even require javascript and got all excited.
