Anyone else thinking about jumping on this? I decided to give it a try this morning and made the purchase. Since sprint actually has 4G in my area (oddly enough nobody else does) I went ahead and got the 4G plan; unlimited talk/txt and 5GBs of 4G data for $40 a month with voice/txt roaming on sprints partners (including verizon). First month was free due to a coupon code I found online. Will probably switch to their 3G $25 plan if I stay with the service just because almost all my data is used over wifi with the exception of GPS navigation.

Seemed interesting though, so I'm pretty much trying the phone/plan out for a month and if it doesn't work I'm just out on the shipping charges. Been wanting to try out the Moto X too but I just couldn't swallow the $600 off contract charge.

I ordered mine yesterday too. got the $25 plan, we should compare notes after like a month of service. Coming from Boost, same Sprint network, Same sprint 3G.
the area I live in about 85% of the time I'm on 3G when I'm out and about.
the 4G thingy would pop on then shut right back down. do like the choice we get in plans.
and the phone is sweet.

I currently have virgin mobile too but am thinking about switching to RW due to the roaming capability and the fact you get unlimited calling for less compared to virgins limited number of minutes at a higher price point. Unfortunately I have a couple months of top up cards to use up before I can switch. I'd be very interested to know how your experience is with RW since we are in the same boat coming from virgin mobile. Keep me posted! :)

Will do... im actually really excited to get out and try the phone and the service. The rooms im renting are in a beautifully finished basement, but its still a basement so the signal I get is pretty bad right now. But if I can get a stable phone service through wifi that would be awesome. I get a stable 60mbps Down speed, 10mbps up with a 16ms ping through my wifi so that seems like it should handle VOIP calling pretty well. Outside the house my phone is mainly used for texting and GPS nav. Think I had like 20 mins of talk time on last months network usage info lol.

I went ahead and got the black weave model since I hear its a soft touch finish compared to the hard plastic on the white weave model. To bad we cant us MotoMaker on it, although the only thing I would change is get the black weave model with deep red buttons/accents.

I got Republic for my 13 year old son over a year ago. For him, the service is perfect. I pay a little under $24 a month for unlimited calls, text and data. The service on WiFi is very good. Once in a great while there's problems with voice calls but rare. The only complaints I get from him are due to Sprint's network. The coverage is spotty and he gets dropped calls when using their cellular network. I would think that some of the problems could be due to the device. The Motorola Defy is a low end Android phone. I have the Moto X myself and I am absolutely satisfied with the phone. The handoff between WiFi and cellular has also been a problem but my understanding is that Republic has fixed that problem. Even though the only way to communicate with Republic is via email, my experience with their customer service has been excellent. They quickly respond to your emails and don't stop until the issue is resolved. If you are already a Sprint customer and are satisfied with the service you get, you would have to be crazy not to grab this deal and sign up with Republic. If you require better cellular service, I would stay away from this only because of Sprint. But Republic is a legitimate company that provides stable and reliable service. If you are good with Sprint's service or if you use your cell at home while connected to WiFi, I would highly recommend going for this deal. You can choose between the 3G deal for $25 a month or $40 a month if you require 4G. You also get to switch between plans at a prorated basis twice a month for free. So if you usually use 3G but will need 4G for a week or 2 you can switch plans and pay for what you need. Plus, the Moto X is an excellent phone. Sprint's weak network where I live and work is the only thing keeping me from doing this for myself.

Can that Moto X be used as a Verizon device then, since it can roam to their network?

In short, no. The device is locked to Republic Wireless due to ROM modifications made to accommodate hybrid calling. Not to say someone couldn't figure out a way to reflash it with a Verizon ROM... but as I understand, the Verizon model is a little different (Developer Edition), so ROM code changes would have to be made to get it to work on the standard Moto X model.

That's what I figured, but had to ask.

Thanks,

If you want to use Verizon, they have a better version of the Moto X anyhow. It includes the GSM radio (missing in the Republic Wireless / US Cellular model) so it will work worldwide (not just in overseas LTE markets), an option for 32GB memory (up from 16GB for other CDMA carriers), and not to mention... Moto Maker is now available, so you can give it all sorts of pretty colors.

That's really interesting, I actually had no idea this was the case - but just checked out the specs, and sure enough, it's a pentaband GSM phone supporting up to HSDPA 42.

I didn't think I could like this phone any more, but I guess it's possible

You sure its missing or just disabled? From what I read RW is using the same model as sprint which does have a GSM radio according to their tech sheet.

Fact Sheet: Moto X

Republic Wireless is selling model XT1049 which doesn't have the GSM radio. Sprint is the sponsoring carrier (so that's why their name is attached). But they don't sell it.

Sprint sells the model XT1056 to its customers which has the extra radios just like Verizon. However, they don't get the extra memory (only 16GB - Verizon gets 32GB).

UPDATE: Ignore last sentence... 16GB and 32GB are now both available for Sprint and Verizon through Moto Maker.

From my understanding Verizon doesn't offer the 32gb, only on Moto Maker just like Sprint, is that not correct?

I need to correct my last sentence...

Both are offered in 16GB or 32GB models when ordered through Moto Maker.

Republic Wireless and US Cellular only have 16GB models and are available in only Black or White. They are also missing the GSM radios. Hence, they are not available through Moto Maker.
