Is excessive gaming bad for smartphone?

I've been using an android phone from a domestic brand of our country.What I want to know is that is excessive gaming harmful for my device?

Hello Darknight. I don't know about your phone, but I have a smartphone (Kyocera Hydro) and I've played games on it for many hours. I use GBC A.D. and Snes9x EX+ to play old Nintendo Gameboy and SNES games. I've never had any issues.

It's extremely unlikely that excessive usage of software alone would be harmful or cause damage, except maybe draining the battery. Some physical aspect of game play might do something, like continual pressing of buttons, because that's wear and tear. More likely that excessive continual gaming without a break could be harmful to you.

Mike is pretty much right, wear and tear can happen just like it does when you play excessively on a console or PC, things get worn down from you playing on them too much, and the same can happen with your smartphone.

However, I do know that if your battery is getting really really hot than this can cause your battery to deteriorate faster than what it's supposed to, so avoiding a constant hot battery is a plus as well.

Simple as this, if you play constantly it will cause a screen to become less responsive, happened on my old phone... Still works but that part needs to be pressed harder a bit and so on

But it happened after a year and a half... So just don't overdo it

No, they should last for years with very heavy use.

However...

The battery will suffer because it will need to go through allot more charge cycles if your using it allot.

The case could show signs of wear but that depends on the build quality.

OLED displays can show signs of burn-in, could happen if you were playing the same game constantly for 3-6 months.

I keep hearing about capacitance grids losing their ability to read touches. Is there any actual research to substantiate this?

Evidence and some knowledge in electrical engineering says no, it won't happen, but some insist it does.

Honestly I play mostly rpg games, so top left corner where buttons for movements are and bottom left corner where all skills are got worn down xD But I must say protective foil makes it last way longer

I've never experienced that, I have an old Samsung i8910 which was released in 2009 which I still use occasionally or gets used by family and the touch response has not degraded at all.

Those of you saying the touch response will be affected- is this because of the touch screen, or installed software? What happened if you factory reset, if you did?

From what I can find on the subject, you're right - it doesn't happen because of gaming.

Touch system can deteriorate, but it's more likely due to changes in the physical structure due to heat, light (UV probably), exposure to atmospheric contaminants - but not because it was used for gaming 12 hours a day for 2 straight years (or something remarkable like that).

The problem with anecdotal information is that it's not structured to identify the cause - and therefore separate that cause from the hypothetical notion of gaming as the cause.

Still the same in my case... But I know for fact that it's because of gaming... The places in screen where my thumbs where got blurry, less responsive and so on..

Can't say it happens on every phone, especially cause my old phone was serious low budget android xD

yes i tried all the stuff and ended up with same issue. maybe its not cuz of gaming but the heating up problem that cause but it did happened to me .

Well, I was just wondering. I had an Acer a500 for over a year, as well as a Nexus 10 that sees exceedingly heavy usage, and a Galaxy Victory, and noticed no degradation on any of the above. I've gotten a greasy screen, smudged screen, but never digitizer performance issues.

For the first year and a bit where I exclusively used it probably 1-2 hours of gaming a day.

After that it's been passed around a bit so it's impossible to answer accurately.

Mine is averaged, there will be days where I spent allot longer and some hardly at all. If you actually managed to play games on your phone for 4-5 hours a day for a year I would be worried about your health and not the condition of the phone.

I doubt it can be damaging to your device other then wear and tear. It is possible for parts on your device to start to go bad. For example, on my 2012 Nexus 7 I noticed that my sensor for detecting the screen rotation is going bad and sometimes the sensor will not detect the landscape orientation and will stay in portrai , or it will just not rotate the screen at all.

that happened to me as well. touch sensitivity and this rotation sensors. actually rotation sensors were messed up before the touch sensitivity.

Touch is bad on my 2nd gen nexus. But that's asus fault. The first shipments were known for that. Tho it works well most of the time.

Yes it is bad to play games on android it brings heat to the device especially if your playing games while charging. The heat damages the CPU making it lag, underclocks, and lowers your performance and this also causes for the screen to respond slowly but this wont happened immediately it happens overtime.The heat is actually bad for the whole device. Such as the battery but you can always buy a baterry.So try to keep it in a cool place. Hope this helps
