Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Is this the end?

Well here I asked the same question...is this the end of the CDMA Metro S3? Now that I have spoken to my MPCS dealer, my answer is yes. She tells me that Metro is trying to get everyone onto GSM and that my phone will be no more in the near future. I explained that I bought my S3 less than a year ago and asked if there was some type of trade in that they could do for me and there was a quick "NO...I'M SORRY". So why should I stay with Metro, they are making me, (if I want to stay with them and not downgrade in phones) spend $600 on a new phone when I spent $400 less than a year ago on my S3. Really don't see why I should stay with them. Also there are no devs continuing with updates on ROM's for our S3 and it just feels like, for the one's still around, we are all left alone....Wow....This really sucks...but it's been a great ride though!!! :( Thanks for all the devs and where they got us on our S3's

I absoloutely know that this isnt the right place to ask but its kind of personal to the metro family. I did research and im pretty sure that it would work fine if i try it but i wanna ask first. I'm on the $30 promo plan with my cdma gs3 but i want to change to the nexus 5. Can i keep my plan and change phones?

If im correct, i can call metro and have them change service over to my nexus but i need to buy a sim card from metro to get lte.

You can't keep your plan. When switching from a CDMA to GSM plan you would have to go for the $40, $50 or $60 plan. If you buy the simcard in a store, it is policy that they have to activate it with your phone and that is $15. Best bet would be to buy it online, shipped to your house and activate it over the phone. Nexus 5 is a good phone.

Confed is correct, I just recently spoke to my MPCS dealer about my N5 and she said there would be no change in plan because I already had a current plan, the only difference would be that it was a GSM plan instead of a CDMA plan but price would be the same.

as long as I own one ill always do work for it lol I just been really busy latey.. and porting those cool mds is not easy at all, shit keeps changing with every update we get so harder to port them.. lol but ill always poke around.. I mean im no dev.. but I can still be helpful ;P

L..I've been with you since the Esteem and have always appreciated your work. I have sold my S3 and now have a Nexus 5. Not sure which direction you will eventually go but I would love to see you on the N5 side. I decided to go with the N5 (with Metro) simply because of price,$349 16g and $399 32g($549 for an S4?! Ouch!) the phone is amazing and super fast..but anyways..

Thank you for all that you have done, you are truly appreciated and respected!! :)

I am also worried about the depreciation value of my GS3 CDMA from metropcs... And it's potential loss of functionality beyond 2015....

I gave my girlfriend a Nexus 5 and she hopped on the Metropcs BYOD... She gets double the download and upload speeds as me.. It's crazy... I am seriously considering getting myself a Nexus 5 but.. I hate to have to loose it's docking station for my car.. As is where I put my phone through its heaviest use such as waze, music etc...

Why do you guys think I still see a lot of support for this phone.. Yet.. I am worried it will be paperweight in a year or so.?

I think because it's a great phone and 2015 is still far down the road. I didn't want to sell my S3 but had someone that gave me $200 for it so I sold it now instead of later.

Grabbed a Note 2 for tmobile and a metro SIM, passed the s3 to mom. Gonna miss you guys..best family I've seen for any device since my esteem.

Sidenote: did a speed test at a red light today, was kinda surprised.
