The Xperia Tablet S can now be rooted!

This how to is probably a lot longer than it needs to be, basically there are only 4 steps, but I tried to be as detailed as possible.

Note that I didn't actually discover any of this on my own, I am merely passing on found information, most of which I found over at XDA.

Thanks goes to Matt Hill, Dan Rosenberg, andrewia, condi, dex9mm, and xxliftsupxx who either supplied the necessary files and programs or just led me to this information! More thanks to anyone I missed!

Basically this is possible because our SPGT12's use the same kernel as the Asus Transformer which already has a working root method.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! AS YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW, ROOTING VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY AND THIS TABLET DOES NOT HAVE MUCH IN THE WAY OF RECOVERY!!!
That said, this worked for me, and this is how I did it.

read the instructions all the way through first so you can get and unzip the necessary files and programs before you begin rooting your tablet

1. First, you will need to install ADB drivers on your computer which you can get here - Sony Tablet ADB Driver Installer
Unzip and run the install file.
If the driver installation fails, you will need to manually install the driver.
Go to the Device Manager and find the failed install (typically the yellow "!" mark and "Sony Tablet")
Right-click on it and select "Update Driver"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list..."
Choose "Show All Devices" and click "Next"
Click "Have Disk..."
Click "Browse..."
Browse to where you extracted the ADB driver installer and select "android_winusb.ini"
Click "OK"
From the list, select the 3rd choice: "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Click "Next"
A warning will pop up: "Installing this device driver..." click "Yes"
Another warning will pop up: "Windows can't verify..." click "Install this driver software anyway"
The driver should finish installing.
Click "Close" and it should now show up as an "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Restart PC

You can now use ADB through a command prompt window to run commands.
e.g. adb devices

2. Enable USB debugging on your tablet. (by going to Settings>Developer>USB Debugging; if they're hidden go to Settings>About and tap the build number 7 times to show developer options.)

3. Plug in your tablet into your PC Run the Motochopper script (run.bat). Get Motochopper here. After you run it, if everything went well, your Tablet S should be rooted in under 60 seconds!

4. Get, unzip, and run Condi's All In One Tool
You will want to install the rescue backdoor tweak from sub menu 4
Option 1
And option 3
for the rescue from boot loop

More about Condi's Tool here

That's it, you're done! Enjoy your root!

Hi. I have an Experia S / SGT11, running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 (5a) and I haven't been able to find any ADB USB drivers for it. Sony's website says no downloads available for my model. does anyone know if the drivers for the SGT12 will work with the 11?

I'm really new to rooting, but would love to learn more. I paid to have an online tech root my new HTC phone, and still have the software on my pc, but got stuck when the application could not verify my Experia tablet. Continuing to pay someone for something I should be able to myself just makes no sense. But i'm not the kind of guy that can just read a book and then know it all. I need a lot of baby steps until i've done something enough times to remember how.

Just learned that the Exeria S and Tablet S are two diffent models. What I have is the Tablet S.
