Will VZ S3 get kit kat?

prj, that is likely a one time thing, happens with every update

woke up this morning to an update notification...i can't ignore it so i just delayed the update....i'm scared! it says it will automatically update next time the phone is turned off...wtf?? anyway to NOT update it?

Weird that you can't over-ride the update option. Mine kept asking if I wanted to ignore, wait 'til later or do it now.

And I did do the update last night, which took a while but didn't encounter any issues.

So far, phone is much more responsive moving around screens, etc and everything seems to work....

Used to be a toggle that you could pull down that would activate the GPS on or off.

Now it has been replaced with Location. Long press location>Mode now you have the choice of high accuracy, power saving and GPS only. Extra steps now required to use GPS only. Previous to the Update the pull down toggle had a GPS only option that you turned on or off. This new way is totally ********.

It will ask you again the next day if you want to delay it again. I've been delaying everyday since 4.3 came out.

Well if you don't long press "location" in the toggle pull down to change the mode you have to do menu>settings>location which is one extra tap.

Then once you are there you have to pick "mode" and then select one of three different location modes: High Accuracy, Power Saving or GPS.

Previous to the kit kat update all you had to do was pull down the toggle, select turn on GPS and you were done.

The new way is dumb and wasn't very well thought out.

Actually with the updated version of google maps for android, the last 2 android updates and the updates of a few other google programs, I am convinced that the developers of android should be fired. What once used to be intuitive and easy to use has now become clumsy and cumbersome.

When my contract is up I am going to seriously look at Windows Phone, iPhone or Blackberry if they still exist. Everything coming out of google lately is a step backwards.

What do you mean Dennygreen? I just hit download, with one eye closed, as I've held out because of all I've read about problems using and transferring photos between the phone and my SD card. Hoping it's not a problem...trying to be optimistic, till I see what I get once this install is done.

Google removed the ability to save or modify files on the SD card in Kit Kat. You either have to hook up the phone to a PC, or root the phone.

Thanks Mydian. I've been tinkering around with the phone since I got this update a few minutes ago. I can still view and delete images on the card from the phone, but what you just said, I have not had a chance to check out yet. I at least won't have big expectations.

Everything else seems okay....although I noticed I've lost a few keys on my keyboard symbols toggle, and as well a few things previously mentioned in earlier posts that weren't too significant to me...yet! '-)

There were some changes mentioned in the official info during the download which I haven't noticed...like losing the icons at the bottom of the lockscreen? Maybe I read that wrong...they are still there.

they will likely go away if you do a factory reset. android upgrades half assed via OTA. i had many changes happen after i reset when we went to 4.3
