Idk what exactly this udpate was but it says SCH-I535_NC1_to_NE1 on 6/29.

my phone could easily go more than 20 hours on a charge before. Now its done by 3pm every day. I thought i had clicked not to do it but i guess eventually it does it anyway?

I cant have my damn phone going dead before the end of the day.

Read tonight something that said to uninstall skype cause that was accessing the camera? i did that so ill see what that does tomorrow. Any other tips or word on this? Sorry if ur a forum nazi cause i didnt search just answer my question if you know please. thx.

I've noticed the same thing on both vzw gs3' that I have, as well as the Virgin mobile gs3 that I've now switched to. It seems to me that Android System is taking up a lot more juice than I ever remember it using, but I haven't paid much attention to my battery in a while.

I noticed "android system" is sucking up like 40 to 50%. Wow.

According to who?

I think he just used the wrong term with supposed. It is however recommended if you are having a issue. It just eliminates a lot of searching for the problem. With a fresh install. You can test how the phone is working? Then start adding your apps and see if any are the problem. Its a pita sometimes. But better than a dead battery. Btw, im not a nazi.

damn. 50%. try turning off the OK Google detection under your Google account in the voice section. I think mine was much worse before I did that. it's still pretty bad though.

another thing I've tried is turning off auto rotate. I've got it down to single digits %, but it shouldn't be the #1 on my list, since I listen to podcasts all day, so mediaserver and screen have always been my biggest usages.

According to most carriers and manufacturers it is recommended to factory reset after MAJOR system updates. Like jellybean to KitKat. Not so much when its just an incremental update like 4.1 to 4.1.2 or 4.4 to 4.4.2. I wouldn't have posted it if it wasn't a reputable recommendation. But its just that, a recommendation, not a necessity.

Never heard of that. Got any links or documentation that prove that?

You have a opinion. Let it go. If you type in factory reset in search. You will get 200 hits. Its a common but final suggestion for alot of issues including update problems. Just cant understand saying never heard of that? Its a choice suggestion. Common sense. Try calling any carrier with a problem after a update. First they make you do all the stupid human tricks per thier script. If that doesn't work. Then its the fr. And no it does not always fix the issue. But at least you now have a point where you can start to narrow down what the real problem is...again just common sense. Nobody cares if its wriiten in stone somewhere. Let it go..

I've recently noticed a much quicker battery drain as well and it also seems to be related to "android system". Previously, I could go an entire day with casual usage. Like the OP, I barely get past late afternoon now before it drains completely.

Over the past couple days, I've noticed that my S3 seems to be searching for my location excessively (just about every time I looked at my phone it seemed to be searching).

This morning, I went to "Location" and set my mode from "high accuracy" to "power saving". That's helped, as I still had roughly 1/4 battery life left at 5pm (that after taking my fully charged phone off the charger at 6am). I don't know exactly what the downside to that is, other than getting a notification occasionally stating that my GPS is disabled. I don't think I necessarily should have to be doing this, but at least my phones not drained by the time I leave work.

I thought 4.4.2 was supposed to help battery life?

No matter what you do the battery will drain in the rate you set the app to work. As soon as I set restrict background data on power saving on kill activities my phone battery goes through day. But we want to enjoy our toy. So best carry a spare battery. I had one that I already misplaced. So no matter you do in the end you won't win. Don't lure yourself.

I didn't express any opinion. I was asking for some proof of the statement Madbat made...

With any major system update you are supposed to factory reset. Its kinda a pain to start over but it helps a lot.

I think its sad that anyone would have to do a factory reset just because of an update. I don't do a re-install of Windows 7 every time it updates.

Just seems weird.

well, nothing works for me. factory resets, clearing cache, etc. I've even used different gs3s on 2 different carriers with stock and different roms (cm11, carbon, liquidsmooth) . I guess the bottom line is that for me, in 4.4, Android System is going to burn a lot more battery than it used to, doing whatever it is that it's doing.

It is peculiar the way these things work. I haven't received any updates, downloaded any new apps, changed any settings but yet my battery usage increased about 25% right around three weeks ago or so.

Before that I could get home at around 6pm and put it on a charge and there would be about 75% left. Now that figure is in the low 50's.

Prior to the 4.4.2 update I probably averaged 15-17 hrs on my Boost GS3 and it charged quickly. Now the battery is below 50% by noon and it charges much slower. Clearing the cache & stopping apps doesn't do much. As dennygreen said, Android System is sucking lots more life out of the battery. I see power packs in my future. Frustrating.

yeah, I switched back to a brand new standard battery for today just to see how long it would last compared to my 1.5 year old extended battery. I remember I used to end my work day with 40% on a standard battery, but now I'm just over half way through today and it's already at 35%, with the same pattern of usage as always.

I tried several battery apps over the past few weeks with no improvement whatsoever. Some just added to the problem. Finally rooted (stock/used towelroot) right after my whiny post on July 13th. By last night I had noticeably better battery life. Uninstalled/deleted/froze many apps using Titanium Backup, LINK2SD and Greenify. Lots of processes still to be researched but it's a promising start.
