I am starting a petition just to see if the Virgin Mobile CEO will even bother with the throttling. https://www.change.org/petitions/virgin-mobile-usa-dan-schulman-remove-throttling If this petition works right then each signature should automatically send an email to the CEO and show there is interest in having the throttle removed. I doubt that this does anything but I truely think that if it doesn't then something should be able to be done since they have technically been getting away with baiting and switching and I am sure that this is illegal and a class action lawsuit can follow if enough people get together and file. I am sorry if this type of post isn't allowed but I am really mad about Virgin Mobile and changing their TOS for everyone instead of just new customers.
 
They aren't allowed to do so. As this is america and nothing should be blocked on the web. Aside from that that would go against net neutrality as well as open internet. But it hasn't stopped the carriers before. Heck they don't really care they will even go as far as baiting and switching. As anyone that has had any virgin mobile services before 2012 knows that they originally had all their services unlimited with no throttling. Then they decide to throttle them and then throttle them even further. And this isn't just for new customers this is for existing as well. Does this not sound like baiting and switching to you? Also for their wireless internet plans they actually completely removed the unlimited and put a cap on it. Once you hit that cap the web gets shut off. So basically Virgin doesn't care at all about their current customers or new customers. They just care about themselves and just want to make it to where they will never have to worry about anything.

VM isn't the only mobile carrier in the USA with bandwidth limits. All the other carriers are doing it too. Heck, go anywhere in the world AFAIK and most mobile carriers are doing it! I think it is reasonable to put some limits on bandwidth with regard to cell phone networks. Otherwise they would be congested all the time. If you want to download huge metric @$$ loads of content, get on WiFi where you can, or borrow someone's PC or something. Or get on t-mobile, where their network can apparently separate audio and file downloads on certain plans, which means streaming music won't eat up your high speed data for a given month.

For my $ VM is still fairly reasonable with its 2.5 GB throttling limit. I get around it by preloading some content (like podcasts) before I leave home. Your claim of VM cutting off the internet through the cell network is unsubstantiated at best IMHO. You must be hitting some dead spots.

Net neutrality? Ok... I can pretty much LOOK at or listen to ANYTHING I want through my phone... wifi, 3g and 4g. No problems there.

I'm having some problems getting service in certain parts of the Los Angeles metro area. However it's not severe enough to force me to leave VM/Sprint. At least not yet anyway... I'll give it a few months.

BEFORE ANYONE ASKS, NO, I DON'T WORK FOR VM OR SPRINT! I've had VM service since 2011. Moved over from an expensive Cingular/AT&T 2 year contract. Still spending hundreds less a year than a lot of people on contracts, even with unlimited talk minutes.

Well I respect your opinion in all but I happen to be a computer technician and have experience with networks as well. And really 2.5GBs these days is nothing. Now if this was around dial-up times where limited dsl was available then heck 2.5GBs would have been plenty enough to go through the month. As all websites were very small and videos were even smaller and were bad quality. Today we have things like youtube, netflix, as well as pandora and lots of other things. If there was network congestion I am sure it would have taken them less than a year to figure that out. As in 2011 it was completely unlimited on 3G and they kept it till very early 2012 if I am not mistaken. And as for congestion I can understand throttling in badly congested areas. But for areas in which you never get your speed slowed down from no network congestion what is the point in throttling that area? Also 128Kbps really I am sure their back-end in most areas from all of the people they have on the networks happen to have in excess of at least 50Gbps when everyone would get on 128Kbps. This is a rough guess for a area for 5k people that originally get access of 20Mbps with a total of 100Gbps which they most likely have much more for a back-end so then 5k people at 128Kbps speeds would be .68Gbps so this would really show that it is possible they just don't want to do it as they just want to have the least amount of maintenance spent and the most amount of money made for each customer out there.

You actually think that a petition could force a business to give you an unlimited fast internet? Sorry, it's a lost cause. You sign a contract that tells you exactly how much data you will be getting and how much you'll be paying a month. If the carrier doesn't keep his end of the deal, by all means, file a suite, I'm sure it will be a class action.

In my opinion, this has nothing to do with net neutrality, where the provider has the ability to limit speed to a particular content provider. This actually blows, but hey, this is America, little guy gets screwed first, then the rest.

Yes, I know these things haimbond. I was just putting it up to see if anyone would actually sign it to see if anyone else happens to be not liking the throttling and would like to see something done. Yes, I know the petition will do nothing as I said in the title but hey you never know. Some petitions actually do something eventually after it gathers enough momentum. And as far as I am concerned if they want to end up having their services like this fine. I just hope that lots of people decide this is not what they had signed up for in the beginning and don't want to deal with it anymore. This seems to be the only thing that gets companies attention these days. As they don't want to hear anything until it effects their profits. So then since it would seem that I am probably the only one that seems to actually want to see anything done about this I guess I am going to try to delete this thread as it seems to be pointless and is just going to have people reply that are against me.

Well, it seemed to me like you wanted to start a petition to see who else wants a service they didn't pay for. Like buying a car and complaining it ran out of gas. In my defense, I have the unlimited android plan from Tmobile that I pay $5 and never see it throttle. Perhaps I don't use it as much and never bothered to read all the disclosures about throttle. But if it said I have 5GB limit, I would take it as that and not try to get over.

So you are saying if you signed up for a service and they made changes after you signed up and you don't like what they did then you wouldn't care? As you say that it is what you are paying for? Well just to let you know if you buy a car with tank that theoretically had an unlimited fuel supply that they had sold to you and said it will cost this much each month to run it then later they take your tank and put a new tank in it in which it doesn't even give you but maybe 3 days of fuel. Are you saying you would be okay with that?
