Will have to give my my excellent LG Motion CDMA phone. The Motion has never failed making a call. Two friends have Metro's GSM phones, one an Avant, and their calling is not as reliable. Is there a problem with Metro's gsm network?

Would like an update on cell phones.

Of all the cell phones available for use on Metro GSM, please list the ones you like in order of preference. Don't want it larger than the Avant. Want a camera 5MP or better, good speakerphone, long battery life (or extended battery available) and great reception to avoid warbling and dropped calls.

I have the LG F60 which was an upgrade from the Motion for me. So far I haven't had any issues with call quality or anything. I can't compare the F60 to the Avant since I never tried the Avant. I know the F60 is a nice upgrade from the Motion since it has a bigger screen and is faster. Still has some lag issues which is probably from the 1GB of RAM. Storage can be an issue with the F60 if you don't root since it only has 4GB of user storage.

Battery life has been good, I can certainly get through the whole day with moderate use. Most likely have to charge it if you are a heavy user. Sure it has a replaceable battery but if you look at the F60 forum you will see a post about someone having problems finding even a OEM battery for this phone!

  • Excellent question. Any and all phones anywhere which will work on my Metro account.
Off the top of my head, I would say Alcatel one touch idol 3, OnePlus one, Asus zenfone 2, Sony xperia Z3 compact, Moto G (2nd gen), Galaxy S4 (can be found for dirt cheap of you look. You can always look for the S 5 as well.). On metro, the avant, or the f6 if they still have it.

Okay. Please list these in order of your preference.

I saw new unlocked S4s for $150 on eBay. Why was yours $250 ? The Galaxy light is at Metro stores for $30. (https://www.metropcs.com/phones/details/samsung-galaxy-light/610214637628.html) Is the S4 worth the extra money over the Light ?

How is the S4 better than the Avant ?
The S4 is definitely with the extra money over the light. Its better then the avant seeing as though it has a better camera, higher resolution screen, bigger screen size within a compact body. Both share the same amount of internal storage, micro SD slots and removable battery. Also the S4 is on lollipop vs kitkat for the avant (I heard the lollipop update for the S4 turned it into a new phone).

Thank you. Will order one based upon the thoughts in this thread. Love removable batteries. Are there extended batteries of this S4 ?

S4 vs Light is personal preference, the main difference being 2GB RAM vs 1GB. Can't speak to the Avant, never had one or looked at one.
The cheaper s4s I saw on ebay did not appear to be brand new in the box with a warranty from a highly rated seller; mine was.

Oh, you are absolutely correct. Thank you. I was about to buy a used one. Changed to a new one.

Is it certain that a Galaxy S4 will activate on MetroPCS ? The reason asked is that phonearena lists this phone as "discontinued" on MetroPCS.

You can't buy a new one at Metro anymore, but you can still activate them.

Shouldn't you get trade in credit for your CDMA phone at a MetroPCS store? If I was you, I'd buy the most expensive GSM phone you can with the credit, sell it/keep it as a backup and find a different phone to use daily. Most phones sold by MetroPCS are not that great.

I traded in my CDMA GS3 two days ago and got $300 store credit. You had to use it all at once for the purchase so I got the G stylo, and four other accessories and no cost :) so far the stylo is great. Battery is actually phenomenal but camera is meh.
