Guys I really hate to show my ignorance, but....I really need some help here. I bought two of these phones for my son and myself. I need to root them because two apps that I use require rooting and SU permission. I've rooted three different types of phone in the past, but I was really lucky and they only required easy things like towelroot. I've read this whole thread and 99.99% was like it was in Greek and I only understand English (and sometimes I'm not too sure about that! LOL!). This stuff about Odin and flashing and recovery makes me want to tear my hair out. The only thing I know about recovery is Titanium Backup Pro.

Is there anyone out there who would please take pity on me (and others who don't understand this stuff), and tell me step by step how to do this with CF Root and whatever else I need? Please don't assume I know the basics and skip steps. Trust me.... your idea of basics and mine are going to be far apart! LOL!!!

Any help would be INCREDIBLY appreciated, preferably before I go bald from tearing my hair out! Thanks!

Sorry don't have a whole lot of time now. Basically though you just have to download the Odin program and run it through PDA flash. You also have to boot your phone into Odin mode which you can find instructions to on google. Be very careful though to let Odin completely finish before disconnecting the phone. It will tell you when it is finished. Then go to the play store and install busybox before updating SU. With busybox installed the SU binaries can be updated automatically. You will find that your phone's recovery is messed it up because the auto-cf was meant for a different but similar phone. If I still have the file I can send you a link but you have to basically flash back the stock recovery using PDA flash in Odin again. You don't have to really have a working recovery but you might as well. With all that you should be setup with SU and you can use pdanet+ to USB tethering. No one here has given out a method for WiFi tethering yet on this phone.

I used kingroot 4.1 to gain root, and AFTER gaining root, download and run "SuperSu me" from the play store. Then run that to convert kinguser to Super SU, and to remove kingroot. Make sure you have busy box installed. That way you still have stock recovery. Worked fine for my daughter's phone and didn't even need a laptop. Hope you got them rooted. Take care.

I don't understand how so many people have said they've been successful in the root process when I have followed the same odin steps using the same tar files and nothing I do will succeed in rooting it. Kingroot doesn't work. Odin 4 seconds in to the process and I'm getting frustrated because there are people saying it's simple. What am I missing. Boost - Samsung Galaxy Prevail LTE SM G360P . PLEASE HELP lol

Well, things are worse than they were. Someone from here was helping me step by step over a messenger type app and now I have a brick. I'm desperate. Can anybody help or do I have to go buy another phone that I really can't afford right now? It is stuck on this screen:

I can boot into ODIN MODE if I take out the battery. Is there any way out of this mess?

http://samsung-updates.com/details/...me_Sprint_USA/SM-G360P/SPR/G360PVPU0ANL8.html Download and flash this with Odin. It's the base firmware. Should fix the brick.

I finally succeeded in rooting the phone. If anyone is having any problems. Restore to factory settings before using Odin method. Worked first try for me.

Guys....did you read my original post? I don't know what "flash with ODIN" means. I know what ODIN is. Am I supposed to use put the phone in ODIN mode and use the PDA part in ODIN?

Odin3 v3.07 is a program to help you install different firmwares, "Odin Mode" is the screen your phone is stuck on. They are two different things. You run the program Odin3 v3.07 on your PC, while Odin Mode is what your phone needs to be in to use the program. Flashing just means deleting/changing the current firmware.

Using Odin3 v3.07 and the CF-Auto-Root method with the Samsung SM-G530BT tar under PDA flash, rooting is successful.

You can also restore to base firmware using the same method. Here are the links.

Odin3 v3.07 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841

Original Firmware - http://samsung-updates.com/details/...me_Sprint_USA/SM-G360P/SPR/G360PVPU0ANL8.html

CF Auto Root Firmware - https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ - Search for and Download - Samsung SM-G530BT

Run Odin3 v3.07 with your phone in Odin mode. Click the PDA button, select original firmware. Hit start. DO NOT UNPLUG UNTIL THE PROGRAM SAYS SUCCESS!! You should have a fresh phone now.

Recently had a buddy get the Boost Prevail LTE and he let me tinker with it and I found no successful rooting guides/programs so I gave it a try and was able to get su working.

Warning, this was accomplished after many failed attempts at other methods (adb/oneclickroot/update.zip) so this is provided with no guarantee of success and please read everything before attempting anything.

Using Odin3 v3.07 and the CF-Auto-Root method with the Samsung SM-G530BT tar under PDA flash, su was successful.

Initially it triggered a yellow warning to show on the boot screen saying "warranty bit:recovery" and changed the odin display to show a custom rom in the status section. However after a second flash, the device booted and I used root checker to confirm that superuser access was available.

The preloaded wifi tether still did not work, and neither did several other wifi tethers I d/l from the Play store. I also used es file explorer and it did let me successfully modify files on the external sd card. The LTE signal still came through and no other differences could be detected. The yellow warranty bit message also disappeared after rebooting.

So good luck out there, and I hope someone else is able to make some progress with my mad scribblings.

PS: In the process of doing this I killed the original recovery bootloader, so a clean dump so I could reflash with Odin would be awesome, if this works for you.
I used the same thing cf root with the smg530bt file now can u use the cyoangen mod rom app to flash custom rom for that firmware or does it need to be smg 360 p
