Received my Note 5 / Owners thread

Afternoon all.

I received mine at about 11:05 central time. AT&T 64gb, black.

I'm coming from the Nexus 6, previously had the Note 1,2,3. I've got to say, it's good to be back in the Note family!

I was a bit bummed to hear/see that the Note 5 wasn't going to have the removable battery & SD storage, but after spending 9 months with the Nexus, I learned that I could live without it. I'd still prefer to have them, but... :shrugs:

Coming back to the Note is like putting on a pair of gloves that just fits/feels right. The Note just fits my hand perfectly. The Nexus was good, but there were minor things that just bugged me. One, it was just a bit too wide and too long. Another was no LED notification. I absolutely missed the crap out of having an LED notification. lol... I couldn't stand having to pick my phone up to see if I had a message etc... or walk over to my phone and check etc... that blinking light is something I hope never leaves. :)

I'll try to answer any questions anyone may have. I'm setting everything up at the moment. Have a great one! :)

lol sorry. I have been playing with it. Most of the day was setting everything up. Last night I had quite a few other things to do, so couldn't play with it as much. But today... I'm back to playing again lol. :)

It came with earbuds, sim and tools, charger, and usual manuals. The earbuds are actually quite comfortable for me.

The screen allows 5x5 apps to be put on. Very nice in that regard.
Fingerprint sensor works amazingly well and is instant. I set my screen lock to be unlocked with the fingerprint and it hasn't missed a beat once at this point.

Battery: I of course drained the battery pretty quickly yesterday. D/l everything, setting up, etc... from 49% down to 19% in about 4 hours of very heavy use. I charged it back up and took less than an hour with the charger included.
After re-charging yesterday, I didn't have much time to play with it. Only had around 1 hour of screen time and it has used 35% of the battery in 17 hours. (that includes overnight)

GSam states battery life would be 1d 6.5 hours with 5.5 hrs screen. I'm not sure about that, since I really did have a limited time to use it so far. For me, I don't think I'll have any problems with battery life, but I'll give it several days if not a week to really let things settle.

So please, don't take my very limited time with the phone to state if the battery is good or not. It's just too soon.

The auto-click pen is nice. With the phone off, once you take the pen out it shows a blank screen where you can take notes. Pretty cool and handy.

It of course comes with bloat, but for the most part Samsung put all the bloat into their own little groups. Google, Samsung, AT&T. So for me... :shrugs: Not a big deal. It does have a Samsung Pay app, and Knox. From what I see so far, you have to install Knox for Samsung Pay to work.

The back of the phone is of course a fingerprint magnet. It's very smooth, but not slippery. It's like they put something in/over the glass to give you a bit of grip. The sides of the phone (metal I think?) are a bit slick. But once you have it hand, it feels really good.

Sorry, haven't used the camera at all. I'm still setting things up and moving things around. I'll check it out a bit today though.

Phone calls seem clear. No static, etc.. for me or the person on the other end.
I haven't played any music yet, so I don't know about the speakers yet. I'll play some today.

All for now. Overall I really like the phone. Also, it's pretty cool to be one of the first customers in the world to have it in hand! :)

Curiosity is knocking:
Are you able to uninstall/disable most of the bloat, namely cheesy games/apps that look like CleanMaster/etc....?
Basically, anything that isn't Samsung or Google?

THX! :thumbsupdroid:

Well, pigs may be flying come 8/21/15:
Checked out the Note5 & S6 Edge+ @ AT&T.
In spite of the &%>)*! security tethers on both models,I was able to quickly rule out the S6 Edge+ & appreciate the very nice feel-in-hand of the Note5 (see HTC ONE Series) :thumbsupdroid:.
I can make the 64GB version work (looks more like 55GB available),keeping my TWRP backups stored on-board to a limit of two,& store the other less-used backups elsewhere.
I stream most of my music via GooglePlay & not much of a photog.
Still a week away before T-Mo has 'em in-stock locally, keeping an eye on the dev community until then...............

lol.. Ya. I have seen some say the Note is slippery, but to me the back feels like it has a bit of grip to it. :shrugs:

Looks like the phone uses 10gb or so in memory, at least for AT&T.

I just came from a Nexus 6 for 9 months. Hence I got used to not having a removable battery nor SD card. Would I have preferred those? Of course.. but it's not a deal breaker for me.

My only problem, which has nothing to do with the phone, is coming up with an email app that doesn't use up so much darn battery. Imap really sucks the juice. lol...

The thing I missed the most while I had the Nexus 6? The LED that blinks when receiving mail, texts, etc... it drove me nuts always having to pick the Nexus up to see if I missed a mail or something. :)

Really leaving a Nexus device for Samsung note device??? Anyway hope you like the device

Yep. I had the Note 1-3, skipped the 4 due to Motorola finally getting a shot at the Nexus. Though I liked the Nexus 6 I missed the capability of the Note family.

The Note has 5.11, and M (5.2 most likely) isn't a huge update as K to L.

:shrugs: Hate to say it, I'm also one of those who gets antsy for an upgrade every year too. lol... shhhh Don't tell anyone! :)

My wife is still using a note 2. She watches Korean dramas and saw the original note on a program. She tried to get one but there was a limited realize in the states. So she waited and got the note 2. She was going to get the note 4 but when she got it as a work phone she was unhappy, she's also not happy with the note 5 having no SD card. Her phone still runs fairly well needs a new battery, we will probably be replacing it either at the end of this year or start of next

So...... how is performance a couple days in?

I haven't had any problems at all. Everything is running great.
I did my usual routine of not using the phone much on Sunday/Monday. Had around 3 hours of screen time and the battery was at 19% with 2 days 4 hours of on-time. I do have a "do not disturb" going from midnight to 8am, with only contacts being able to reach me. So I'm sure that helps with the battery.

Now, I realize everyone uses their phone differently, with radio signals, etc.. but for me the battery will be just fine.

The s-pen works great. The fingerprint sensor is awesome. Works instantly and I only had one failure due to me only having part of my finger on the sensor.

The phone feels great in hand and everything just works. :)

As noted elsewhere, seems the 64GB versions are not readily available @ most carrier outlets.
Had to order in-store @ T-Mobile today. From now until September 30th,they're (T-Mobile) offering free overnight shipping on selsect devices, the Note5 being one of them.
Whether this means delivery tomorrow (Saturday,8/22/15) depends on whether T-Mobile specified a Saturday delivery sticker/stamp.
Otherwise,delivery will be Monday 8/24/15.
Of course,I have conflicting information:
T-Mobile's ETA 8/22/15
UPS' ETA is 8/24/15 :thinking::thinking::thinking: :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

YAY,the day has come,picked-up mine from T-Mobile this afternoon.
Very preliminary impressions,LUV IT.
Came w/only 24% charge,so,I'm awaiting a full charge before diving in completely.
So far, disabled about 15 apps (one would think this is a WINDOWS phone,I see the need for some, but, not for me to have it permanently installed on my phone).
I've also disabled Smart Manager collecting data (I believe). For more on this, I highly recommend following along w/this thread:

& if you're not familiar w/CheetahMobile & CleanMaster/SmartManager,ya might wanna familiarize yourself here:
