According to official specs of the Zmax, it only supports up to a 32gb card. I would use caution using anything higher than a 32. His 64 may work fine... Until he really needs it...
It only says it works with a 32gb because it does not support the exfat file system, which is the default file system for 64gb cards. All you have to do is put the card in the phone and it will say blank SD card or unsupported file system and it will ask if you want to format the card. Press yes and it will format the card as fat32 which is the default file system for a 32gb card and then you will have 58 or 59gb of free space. I have used 64gb cards in five different phones that all claimed to only support cards up to 32gb and it has never caused me any problems. I'm not saying this is true for all phones that don't claim support for 64gb cards but my 64 gb card works fine with the zmax.

SanDisk announced what many of us knew about that spec being wrong and Phandroid put it to the test, finding that most everything thrown at it could support 128 GB.
Man instead of getting a 64gb sd card for my ZMAX I got a 32gb instead just because of what the specs said haha. At least thanks to you guys I know I can go for a better SD card now.
Be very very wary of buying flash memory from places like Craigs list or eBay. .. there's a lot of fake cards out there... and lots of people have lost lots of data that way
Maybe I just got lucky then. Then again I won't buy anything without being able to check it first to make sure its legit and I tell the people so before I meet with them. As far as eBay goes I never buy from them because with eBay you can't see what you are buying before you pay for it. At least with Craig's list I can inspect what I'm buying and if its something like a cell phone I can verify the imei before I pay for it. I never have and never will trust eBay.
- I have a ZTE Magesty pro. 16 gb built in storage. Which I thought I could only use a 16 gb sd card. But then I tried a 32 gb sd card n it worked. Still wanting more storage, I tried a 64 gb sd card. A 64 gb pny micro SD card n to my surprise, it worked as well. However, I still need more space, so I'm wondering if I can use a pny 128 gb micro card since the 64 SD card worked?

I'd say yes, the 128GB should work. Because it's recognised the 64GB, which is an SDXC type. It's phones that only recognised SDHC types that were limited to 32GB.
