Help software update loads, but won't install.....

phone downloads the update, goes thru the motions, then says "update failed". Tried it several times with the same result.

android version 7.0
last security patch April 2017

phone works fine, but now it won't connect to my PC, even tho the cable used has connected in the past.

phone was purchased new, and not modified at all....

any ideas?

do you have enough space on your phone for the update to download?

I believe so.....the update shows as 377MB and I show 1.2GB free memory. Also, the download actually happens, completes, begins installation, and the progress bar eventually gets to 100%.

Then, I get a message that the installation failed. No other clues, except that after that, when I check for software updates, it says my software is up to date......UNTIL the next morning, when it says an update is available. UGH!

You say it's not been modified, but what's the Knox Status showing?
Should be "Official" and not "Custom", and Warranty Void counter should be "0x0".

If they're not as above, OTA updates won't work.

thanks! I have no clue as to how to check the Knox Status.......can you explain?

I don't see that other stuff anywhere....

"Official" means it's OK. And so it should update. No real idea why it doesn't

i would check and see if smart switch can actually update your phone.

or

it might be extreme, but try a hard reset and then update. just make sure to back everything up first using smart switch.
