Has anyone that recieved a replacement gotten the silent bug. Don't want to start the process if I am just going to get another phone with the same hardware issue. Thanks.

Because of the apparent lack of stringent quality control measures at the factories, it is probably a bit of a gamble when you want to replace your bad Eris for a good one.

But the incentive would be high, given that you already know that you got a bad one. Try for a good one. Keep trying until you get a good one that performs as advertised.

Guys, when you have this bug, what is your battery charge at? The only times I seemed to have it were at the end of the night when my battery was in the yellow or about to be. It's been about a week or so since I've had the issue and I've been keeping my battery charged. I don't make many calls, but the dozen or so that I have made have gone through just fine.

You might want to keep an eye on that thread, even though I'm nearly certain that as soon as the patch is posted word will get around very quickly.

I don't think PRL affects the silent phone bug, but on my old phone with the bug, I was always using PRL 51866 (received from *228), but on my new phone without the bug I have PRL 51893 because I haven't done a *228 since installing the OTA.

I get 51866 on both my wife's and my Eris every time I do *228. Is there any place where we can get another PRL like the Alltel one someone had put up before on here that would give us another number to try??

I'm getting the silent call issue after I put the phone in Airplane mode (for the specific purpose of flying). Only thing that fixes it is a reboot. I did not have this prior to 2.1 OTA. Call Verizon and get it replaced? I also have a cracked screen so that's an added bonus if I get a new one. But I don't want to get a new one, get the OTA and have the same problem recur.

ETA: Yes I did a factory reset.

Trust me, you'll get the silent call issue any time it decides to show itself. Call VZW and get it replaced.

I have this bug. New browser sucks with it's stupid bookmarks.

Have had my eris since November... no rooting or anything... no issues with 1.5.. did OTA 2.1 update last week. The first few days I had no issues with 2.1.. silent issue seems to have started last weekend when it was sitting in my car at a weird angle.

Just did the G-sensor calibration and made 4 test calls.. no issues.. where as I called it from my desk phone earlier and it had the silent issues.

I seem to have delayed the issue by turning on "Audible Selection". It may be annoying to get the "click" every time I tap something, but I haven't had any sound issues for a week now.

Well I called VZW today and they are sending a replacement phone. The guy hadn't heard of the silent call bug but when I said I'd done a factory reset and I had to pull the battery once I got into the silent call loop, he said all that could be done was replace the handset. Let's hope this one doesn't suffer from the same bug.

Update: Running Evil Eris 2.0.1, I have disabled automatic updates and un-checked the Quiet on Call box and haven't noticed the problem in over a week...

You might be on to something here. The last two times I have had this, my battery light was yellow and it triggered the silence. Plugged it in and immediately the issue was gone. My battery level was at 29% both times according to Battery Life App. Have not had the problem otherwise.

My uptime right now is 241h:08m:58s (e-penis++), it has been that long since I had the bug, and I've been keeping my phone charged, and not calling anyone when it was yellow/red.

Do you mean the issue was gone without even having to restart? When I had a silent-bugged phone, I tried plugging it in, but the phone was still silent until reboot.

Yes. As soon as I pluggeg it in, I was able to immediately dial and the silent bug went away. First time it happened I never thought of that and immediately rebooted to fix. Also, my wife's phone battery just went into the yellow and I asked her to call me. Sure enough, silent bug.

So i just got my replacement after i had the silent bug twice. It was low battery incidentally, the second time at least...... This is the second time this happened, and I can't remember if it was low the first time too.... I was at home so I kinda doubt it, but maybe. I am tempted to let it run low on purpose this time to see if it does it again.

I've had it occur three times, and my battery was nearly fully charged.

While I cannot dispute plugging it in allowed you to make a call (never tried it), I can assure you that I was hit with the bug with varying degrees of charge, even fully charged...

Ok, anyone want to try for "hot phone = silent bug" instead? I was thinking, maybe it really is a hardware problem, because maybe a connection is coming loose in some phones when the phone gets hot.
