My first question is, Does this fix updated Google Search causing the home screen to crash?

If not, then my interest level won't be very high.

I wonder if it will address the blinking camera issues as well

Looks like they are adressing the white 4G icon - no internet issue. I have had that problem quite often lately.

Preloaded Google r10 apps? Anyone know what that means?

I found before I posted the story that it brings Google Play Music and Google+ and puts them in as a /system/app.

That's what these are in particular.

After falling off the ota path with a leaked update and having to spend time getting back on it I am waiting till it's sent ota. I love motorola support though :)

This phone is getting easier and easier to hang on to for many months.

"The update for the DROID Bionic that leaked out 2 days ago has been officially announced by Motorola and will be rolling out to a private group of testers soon."

Exactly where did Moto announce this? I can't find any evidence of an announcement, and no one has offered a link to anything official from Moto. I was in the test group for the 5.9.902 version, but haven't seen anything about this update.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

  10. That is the nature of "leak". It is unofficial and not supported by Motorola.

What 5.9.904 is purported to contain is listed in a lot pf places. Google "5.9.904".

If it was handled the way it was in the past, the testers operate under a non-disclosure agreement and are forbidden to talk about it until it is released.

I blocked the updater! lol So far (Knock on wood), my Bionic is stable and without any notable issues. :) So far I intend to stick with ".902" for the duration of my ownership. :)

I understand the nature of leaks and what you are saying and I understand the test process as I participated in the previous one for the Bionic, and many others dating back to my Blackberry days.

I believed that since someone posted this "announcement" by Motorola in such an open manner, that it might have been publicly announced. Basically what has been done then is a violation of the NDA.

There have been many threads in many places about the search function causing the home screen process to crash since the 902 update. My Bionic is completely stock. Following the 902 update if I opened the all apps drawer then hit the search button at the bottom, the crash would occur.

It was discovered that uninstalling any updates to Google search would alleviate this problem. Unfortunately, then the constant prompting to update Google Search begins.

  15. The announcement was drafted and stored somewhere and not published. Someone decided to "leak" it.

The same thing happened with 5.9.902.

I first saw the LEAK story on the public "MOTOROLA FORUMS" days ago and the story (which has a link to the leak download) are still there. THEY HAVEN'T REMOVED IT.

thanks for the explanation. i've never initiated a search from that screen. I just tried it, and it does indeed FC.

I saw this, and I'm surprised they haven't removed it.

You are welcome. The work-around is ok if you can tolerate the update prompts.

  19. Well ... here's something for consideration ...

If it is not formally announced and formally released then Motorola does not have to support it. If the documentation is wrong then that's too bad ... Motorola doesn't have to stand behind it.

It seems to me that there is a real advantage to everyone in seeing what the leak is about with the complete understanding that it might change and it might never happen.

What is on a forum somewhere in the world is not particularly relevant.

I checked yesterday and there was no formal announcement yet that they are looking for 5.9.904 testers.

    So ... short form ... it's only a rumor.

Just sharing what I've read from other places for what we may expect from this update (when we get it):

"I have been running the update for a couple of days now- absolutely no problems with the download or install. The 3G and 4G signals are rock solid! I wonder if they tweaked the radio too? My signal strength before was around -94 to -100db. It now sits consistently at -86db! Either that or simultaneously VZW put up a new tower nearby-"

  22. Pleas post a screen shot of the information page of your Bionic starting with Version and ending with Build Number.

    Thanks.

    Hi Thom,
I re-posted what I have found elsewhere (feedback) regarding the update. I am waiting for the Soak. I was involved with the last Soak for our current version and I was involved on the Soak test for my Motorola Xoom (that was for ICS).

I'm hoping one of these mornings.

    Dan

  24. In my opinion waiting is a good idea. They have not asked for soak test volunteers yet.
