Ainol Novo 7 Paladin

Pros:

- Cheap 7" tablet with micro SD card expansion slot & OTG USB
- Option to attach 3G dongle via USB (selected models). Untested.

Cons:

- Manufacturing defect causing tablets to randomly make click selections on its own. Intermittent issue. Tolerable if tablet not overheated / charged.
(Verified with several other owners who faced the same problem regardless of what they do)

- Running MIPS chipset instead of the common ARM-based. That means a lot of apps will not be available on market. But probably good enough if you use it for couch surfing.

- Expect normal screen quality. Expect to see pixels. This ain't no retinal display or AMOLED.

- Battery life is low despite hefty battery probably due to screen high energy consumption (vs Super Amoled screen which uses significantly less power but of course Samsung 7.7 tab is much more expensive) Would say probably the same as any other budget tablet out there.

- Smoother than other dirt cheap tablets but performance still much to be desired. (i.e. lag in switching tabs in default web browser)


Conclusion: Only a cheap tablet good for couch surfing & email use / car entertainment. But most people probably only needs that and nothing more.

Upgrade to Ainol official paladin ICS 4.0.3 rom, which comes with all the original default apps. Plus the new Touchpal swipe input. This alone is worth upgrading for.

make sure or format your microsd card to FAT32. NTFS will NOT work.

copy update.zip to microsd card.

insert microsd card into switched-off paladin.

switch on paladin and hold volume key + and power button until upgrade process starts.

Upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 and dim the display seems to stabilized the phantom touch issue.

Stable so far. Battery life is great probably due to the dim display. Might actually consider taking this tablet outdoors.

Tiger Arcade game emulator works on paladin. Magic code 1.3 may help with other apps.

THe phantoms issues it seams that are related to the charger that bring with the tablet that is not good.

charge the tablet with a good charger or the usb form the pc.


always use magic code it make works tons of application that does not work with the original firmare

also recomend to upte to 4.0.3 or install the custom rom 0.8

install latest rom 0417v it fixes phantom touches and has lost of improvements it makes the tablet boot ins 46secs.

After upDating to 4.0.3 I was pretty happy.
After getting a N7 I'm really happy.
WiFi connectivity is so much better plus no processor issues.
I love the format and of course JB.
