Help Bluetooth - cannot connect w/ computer

Yes. Go to update the driver, hit browse my computer, Let me pick..., Ports (COM & LPT), Microsoft, and pick Standard Serial over Bluetooth.

Cant say for sure this is a real fix. There are no errors listed according to Device Manager but I haven't found a good way to test the two com ports created although I haven't really tried very hard.

Ernie

This certainly worked and thanks for that tip.

I have exactly same problem with my Xperia Arc S. Thought it was the phone but it looks like its the computer. Can only connect to laptop via USB. Can anyone help?

What sort of connection are you looking at? Wifi, bluetooth?

If you mean bluetooth, try using the bluetooth connection that comes with windows. Kies is suppose to be able to connect, but as you can read, seems there are issues trying to connect that way.

Hey guys new member on the forum, first post (and also first time user of anything but a Blackberry for the last 10 years!).

I also have the fail to connect with Bluetooth problem..I'm trying it out to see how a bluetooth connector will work for internet use with my S2. A coworker of mine who has a Droid X uses a bluetooth adapter on his laptop for internet use with his phone and he has no issues and gets a little better than dial-up speeds for internet which isn't bad.

I do have the 4G plan so I can use tethering/hotspot for internet, HOWEVER, I can only get tethering to work at this time. WIFI hotspot keeps disconnecting me (limited access) after KIES updates/PC software installed/all other options it seems, so I figured if I can get a bluetooth adapter to work I'll switch to a 2G service plan instead. Why pay for the 4G when the hotspot doesn't work EITHER?! BTW if you have any suggestions on getting the hotspot to work feel free to chime in! I'm on Windows 7 with a new Toshiba laptop.

So I get the same issues as everyone else here, try to connect (with/out KIES) and the drivers won't install or aren't available. I'm just waiting on the proper drivers too!

AWESOME phone, but support seems sketchy at this point.

So, I also got this annoying thing. Running Win 7 64bit on an acer aspire 1810TZ exploring the possibilities of the bluetooth.

I conclude the following:
* trying to connect using bluetooth, regardless of using Kies or not, will install drivers.
* 4 of the 5 services on the device are identified and installed correctly.
* the 5th lists as unknown and says "Bluetooth Peripheral Device doesn't have a driver".

The suggestion to use microsoft standard communication driver for serial device seems to get rid of the annoying error but will list as a port for sending SMS.

At another forum, a similar Samsung device listed the same services but the 5th one reads "File Transfer (Obex)"
(sorry i cannot submit the link since the forum rules forbids me. Please ask me for it if you want it.)

So for me, I don't think that this serial standard drive solved it.

But, I was not looking for the file transfer service, I would use the USB for that.
No what I wanted to do was to use the phone and it's headset as a bluetooth headset for my computer. But what it looks like, that kind of service is not there, is it? If someone succeded in that, please tell me how you got that working.

Regards
/J

i have found the same problem as most of the above. The first time I tried my bluetooth in GS2 to connect my computer(thinkpad x200). It was shown in my computer, but the driver installation failed. Then, I never find my GS2 by bluetooth. It seems that Samsung missed the bluetooth driver. My surprise is that as GS2 has come out for half a year, I can not believe the engineerer of Samsung cannot solve such problems. I do not plan to transfer files by bluetooth, however, losing the bluetooth function makes me crazy.

Yes, Noghar, it is really surprising that the best phone in the world cannot connect to Laptop via bluetooth!! And I would have expected more replies from actual owners of this phone. I wonder why no one is replying on this important issue? Has anyone using sgs 2 been able to connect their phone & transfer files to & from the laptop using bluetooth?? Genuine owners of this phone, please answer.

Yes. I have SGS2 and Toshiba Laptop with Toshiba's bluetooth stack. I paired the two with no problems and send files back and forth with no problems using the bluetooth even a 180MB video file. I find it's the quickest way to copy a few songs to the phone as I don't have to find the cable. I have sent files one at a time and in groups and there is no problem. For a lot of files and a few really big ones though it is easier to use the cable with the phone in USB mode because I can control where they go.

All I do is make sure that the bluetooth is on in both devices and they are near each other. Then I right click on the file(s) and select "to Bluetooth" then select my paired phone. It just sends. The same for sending a file from the phone to the laptop. Sometimes I need to open the bluetooth dialogue on the laptop first. Files transferred end up in the phone's bluetooth folder and I just move them from there.

Now having said that I cannot get my PC which has an ASUS motherboard and Logitech bluetooth receiver, to talk to the phone. I can pair them with no issues but not transfer a file from the phone or to it. It might be the Logitech bluetooth stack. I don't know as I am unwilling to revert to the Microsoft one.

Don't have your problem.

I can connect bluetooth to computer fine. Windows 7 64bit. Didn't even need any drivers other than the one already installed with the computer. Although I limit to small files that I can transfer quickly since its slower than USB cable as well as sometimes the transfer can fail with bigger files or when trying to transfer lots of files at once.

I think the majority have very little problem and that's why you don't get that many replies.

Cheers

My need was for transferring files back and forth using Bluetooth but run into the same issue as many others here. After pairing the phone on Win7 64b, I got the "no drivers found" warning.

Solved by:

1. In the Bluetooth device window, right-click the phone icon and select 'Properties'
2. Click 'Hardware' tab then 'Properties'
3. Click 'Change settings'
4. Select the 'Driver' tab, then 'Update driver...'
5. Click the second option: "Browse my computer for driver software"
6. Click to choose the option "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
7. From the list "Common hardware types", Select 'Ports (COM & LPT)'
8. Two droplists appear. Choose 'Microsoft' in the "Manufacturer" list, then 'Standard Serial over Bluetooth link' in the "Model" list
9. A warning window pops up. Ignore it by clicking 'Yes'
10. 'Close' and done!

This solution is independent of Kies which I don't use.

While playing around with this I found out that my computer didn't alert me about incoming files. That's probably because the IT-department at my work have disabled that function for me. So, for sending files from the phone to the computer I have to first open up the "Bluetooth file transfer" window by selecting "Receive a File" from the drop-down list that appears when clicking the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. Then I can monitor the file transfer and select target directory.

As another frustrated user I found that using the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack software solved the problem instantly.

If you Google:

Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for non-Toshiba Notebooks v 8.00.03 for Windows 64-bit

or

Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for non-Toshiba Notebooks v 8.00.03 for Windows 32-bit

Depending on what version of Windows you have.

The websites to find it are either Techspot.com or softpedia.com or find it on the BitTorrent.

Do a restore point before installing it, then install it.

Your computer will go a bit bonkers whilst it installs all of the drivers, but be patient and it will settle down and once its done, reboot & all will be fine.

I've just done it and it works perfectly. :)

so it seems a) there is a [major] issue with bluetooth connectivity here b) no fix by users c) no fix by samsung d)samsung clearly don't even read this forum.

apart from the shocking battery life, obviously inferior user options compared o iphone [like slide to delete emails] and useless navigation compared to iphone, THIS IS YET ANOTHER REASON I AM SO REGRETTING HAVING JUST SWITCHED FROM IPHONE --- AAARRRRGGGHHHH FRUSTRATION.....

ps I am a non techie and just want ease of use ...

OKAY UPDATE - it actually is connecting but first said S2 not accepting - so maybe working but boy oh boy what a process!

BTW. If you're phone is eating your battery then try this:

Settings - Accounts & Sync - Background data (uncheck) - Exit.

Check your phone's firmware & see if there's a firmware update, just make sure that you have a minimum of 50% battery charge & that you back up the phones contents first.

I take it you either have bluetooth built into your PC or you have a USB bluetooth dongle.

You need to turn on the built in bluetooth or plug in your dongle for it to work.

I've got a Blue Soleil dongle and a generic dongle and this fix works with either.

Cheers but i don't own a dongle, just have the built in Bluetooth in my laptop so i assume i need to have that dongle to fix this.I tried with the built in bluetooth on but still no luck :(

Ok guys...I was having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy phone...I was unable to connect to my Samsung Laptop via Bluetooth. Tried using Samsung Kies software, tried Win 7...just like most of you did. So I went into reverse motion...tried to connect from the phone to the PC.

You activate the bluetooth connection, then head over to Settings and select Wireless & Networks, Bluetooth settings and THIS IS IMPORTANT select Visible (Make this device Visible) and at that moment my Laptop (I had left it scanning for devices) detected the phone. The connected and had to fill in a code given by the PC and all set up.

Tried it the other way around as well...instead of making the phone visible (for scanning) I had it SCAN FOR DEVICES, it found my PC and again...it worked.

The Galaxy line of phones is not crappy...us users just need to read the manual (I haven't...will try). These phones are about making life easier and it seems we just become too lazy.

Hope this solution helps some out there... signing off!

IF I WANNA KEEP THIS SHORT AND SWEET:

As a software engineer who has a fair amount of knowledge from old computers until Android masterpieces, tried every single thing mentioned in this forum and other forums plus lots of other stuff. Blue-tooth connection DOESN'T WANNA WORK.

IF YOU WANNA KNOW THE DETAILS READ ALONG:

What I realised was:

 • This issue is mostly PC side related issue than the SAMSUNG side.
 • The driver hasn't been specified by SAMSUNG issuming that everybody in the world owns Toshiba Laptops :D (even the crap Toshiba Bluetooth software for non Toshiba laptops didn't fix the problem and was about to take over and crap my legend Lenovo with a malware)
 • after hooking the mobile up with Android Debug Bridge (ADB) using USB, ran awesome Lenovo Update and he recommended a new driver called "Thinkpad Bluetoosh 2.1 with enhanced Data Rate" and also windows had an update for SAMSUNG adb interface. Did them both, and restart. BAM!!! it managed to install 5 new drivers and the 6th one which failed called with general name of "Blue-tooth Peripherals" which lots of people believe it's "transfer BDX" driver or something similar.
 • NOW, I can:

 1. Pair my phone
 2. use the laptop to listen to the music which is broadcasting via Galaxy
 3. use the laptop like a headset to talk and listen while having a call
 4. send and receive files via Blue-tooth

 • I Can't:

 1. Connect to SAMSUNG Kies via Blue-tooth. ( the device terminated the connection ) message.
 2. Make a Bluetooth connection via COM Ports and transmit GPS data to Google Earth using real time NMEA connection despite trying multiple apps and multiple settings for COM ports.
Who to blame:

 • SAMSUNG: for a very poor implementation of any type of feature which involves PC.
 • Since:

 1. The Kies is a very poor interface for backing up & managing the phone ( which is very critical ) and unfortunately for Non-rooted and also in my believe for Rooted phone the only interface which includes all the functionalities including backing up Data, Settings, and Personals. NOT using this buggy poor interface of Kies, forces the users to be dependent on separate programs and apps to back up every individual functionality. I need and app to back up my application settings, need an app for back up my data and photos and videos on SD, need an app to back up contacts, SMSs and etc. and bla bla bla only because Kies stops in the preparation step for backing up my Data and takes millions years to back up a simple SMS list.
 2. Used to have Sony-Ericsson phone with a PC Suite which is unbelievably advanced when it comes to compare to Kies.
THEN PLEASE:

 1. if it worked for the first time for you, you're lucky cuz you own the specific gear by luck ( But don't be proud of yourself and stop accusing others for not reading the manuals which teach you how turn on your phone ) CUZ
 2. if it doesn't work, you need to be a "driver writer" which should've been hired by SAMSUNG ages ago to write a simple driver for Bluetooth interface before he sells 3 million one of the phone which is chosen to be a 2011s best phone in thousand websites.
SAMSUNG you are going to lose the market for such an awesome phone by not considering these. You've done the hard bit and created a masterpiece and now you're making your clients miss your competitors phone "iPhone" cuz they used to open iTune and use a very neat interface prepared by specialists for them for ease of use and epic functionality.

Open to hear any success storied.

Hi all,
I came across a simple solution to solve this and it is a no brainer. Just download PDANet.exe from the internet.

You can find it here or any other source you can search.
Download PdaNet

When you run this program it loads all the drivers you need for USB and PDA device connectivity and when you connect your Andriod phone, it installs the drivers it needs for connectivity.

I tried many solutions, none of them worked, but this gave me the break. Now I can connect my Galaxy phone to my PC.

Happy connectivity!
Thanks for your suggestion. It worked!!
