Installed latest update to cameras app and find that any picture I take disappears after a few minutes and is replaced with a black icon with a warning sign in it. Anyone else had similar problem.

Working fine here. Try clearing the camera app's data/cache

Cheers mruno, tried that, no joy. Have just done full reset and problem still there. Take a pic and when I go to gallery, it shows as black square only.

Have you tried using a 3rd party app such as Google's?

Might be problem with sd card. Switched the camera app storage to phone rather than card and problem seems to have stopped. Am away from home for a few days so will check card when back home. Cheers

Ok this gets more confusing. So have reset phone, set it to store on phone not sd card. Now when I take a picture it comes out blurred. If I double tap on the picture it will zoom in and the zoomed in picture is in perfect focus, it is just initial view that is blurred. No problem with lens. Anyone got similar issue since updated software. Cheers

Thanks again for replies received, sorry for delay replying as i was on holiday.
I think the problem is how KitKat 4.4.4 is dealing with SD card. I have read other posts about the removal of third party apps being able to write to sd card being removed but did not think this would include the M8's own camera software.

I have over 400 previous photos saved to the sd card. If i go into gallery and choose to delete any of them, they do initially disappear but short time later they reappear.
If i take a picture using native M8 calendar and store to sd card then short time later they have disappeared.

If i change the storage location to the phone then the pictures are saved properly and if i go into gallery and choose to delete pictures, including a mix of the ones savedd on sd card and phone, then short time later the pics saved to the sd card will reappear but not those saved to the phone.

mruno i have installed google camera as you suggest and it seems to allow storing to the sd card only and this then works properly with pics remaining until i delete them and once deleted remaining deleted.

As i stated, i have googled this query and it definitely seems to be down to google looking to make the use of sd cards as troublesome as possible.

Google camera seems fine but now and again i do like some of the functionality of the dual camera mode of the m8, so unless i monitor the space remaining on my phone i cannot choose to use sd card.

I am really disappointed with this as the main reason i have never wanted to buy into apple was because, to my mind, they forece you down the road they want to go, if android continues like this then i may have to consider a change in the future.

Thanks for everyones input and welcome any more thoughts on this.

This is a problem with the way Google wrote the base code. It's something we'll have to deal with unfortunately. Rumors abound about Google trying to reduce phone storage down so everyone will be forced to utilize their cloud storage services. No one knows for sure.

Good news is you can fix this by rooting the phone. If you're willing, stop in the root forum and have a look around, ask a few questions. We'll get you squared away. :)

They are definitely trying hard to push cloud storage. I had the occasional black image until I rooted. Since then I have never seen another one. I am guessing that either it's an SD card problem or a random permission error while writing the photo to the card.

I personally recommend root for anyone that doesn't want to be bound by the overzealous restrictions placed on SD card data.

Cheers Granite1. I have been googling all day looking into this as it has been really annoying.
I had tried safe mode and then deleting files on the card, tried formatting it in the phone and on my pc but the card wont format. I have raised a ticket with sandisk asking if the card could be faulty but honestly the more i read, the more convinced i am that it is Kitkat.
When trying to delete or format the card, i recived messages saying that the card is now write protected, even when i have it in my pc.
I have tried various suggestions for changing the write protected setting but again no use.
I googled, can kitkat write protect sd card and there are many posts from people with similar problems and issues. Their card becoming write protected, so although you can access the files that are still on the card you cannot add or delete from it so it does not seen to be a faulty card.
Will be interesting to see what sandisk reply.

    Thanks agin.

If the card won't even format on your PC than it is the card.

I am thinking that myself now, although find it strange that i can still access everything that is on the card, using both my phone and my pc.

Will see what sandisk come back with, see how real their lifetime guarantee is.

    Thanks again.

No problem, once you do hear from SanDisk please let us know. In the meantime do you have another SD card you could try?

Cheers mate, tried an old 16 gig card i had lying about and it allowed me to format it and to choose it as storage for pictures and even better the pics are saved fine.
Strange how the pics seemed to save and then disappear and that the card can still be read but it definitely suggests the card is gubbed.
Will post again when i hear from Sandisk.

    Thank you.

I gave up on Sandisk years ago. I had too many problems on various PDA's and phones.
