Cannot enter device pairing code in YouTube App.

Hello I am trying to pair my devices with the YouTube app. However, I cannot enter the device pairing code into the correct spot in the YT app....only the numerical keypad comes up and not the qwerty keyboard! There is no option to access the keyboard either! Nor to access the write pad so I cannot write it out either. Copy/Paste does not work as only the numbers will paste and the letters are omitted. The QR code reader option is there though...but there is no QR code to scan. I cannot mention this problem in the Play store as I do not and WILL NOT create a Google+ account. Is there any thing I can do to get the qwerty keyboard to appear?

Leaving a comment on Play doesnt help anyway. You could use the email link on the Youtube playstore page though if noone here can help.
I paired the wifes Wii with my youtube app and it worked fine but i cant remember if it was letters or just numbers
