I'm sorry. I thought someone already covered it.

Heres how you load it to your phone...

download this to your computer and unpack and install...Android SDK | Android Developers this is ABD

    Once thats downloaded...

plug your phone in to your pc using the usb cable.

    on your phone
    go to your settings
    go to applications
    development
check the usb debugging box (it must have the green check in the box)

then swipe down the notification bar
    click on the usb connected
    click on mount

    on your pc

download the zip on in this post...decepticon.zip

open the abd and go to the tools folder.
    rename the zip to bootanimation.zip
copy the and paste the zip into your tools folder in the abd

    click on start
    run
then type cmd in in the box ( this will bring up a black box)

now this is where some people get lost....

Where ever you saved your ABD is its location... when ABD tools folder is open look at the the browser window and copy it. that is its location remember it make a cheat sheet of it cause if you messed p a step you can just refer back to it instead of hunting all over your computer for it.

    example mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\android-sdk-windows\tools

In the black bock type cd then the location of your tools folder..

    example...cd C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\android-sdk-windows\tools...

    Then hit enter

    then type..

    adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local

it may take a second, then it will show in the black box that it had downloaded x amount in x amount of sec.

Then you can unmount your phone

    Turn off your phone
    then restart it...

    enjoy your new animation

If I missed a step or you have a issue let me know...I am by means no expert nor do I code or anything like that. I learned how to do it from another forum just like all of you, and got lost in the process. But this is the easiest way to do it, and much easier that the way I learned

Just installed and looks awesome. The scrolling text could be a little smoother, I have no idea how that can work, but nice job overall.

I have the sd card mounted and am in debug mode and still get:
    error: device not found

So this doesnt have to be rooted to do this?

Very nice work. I installed using droid root helper and was able to do everything from my phone, very simple. I really like that matrix text effect at the end. Thanks!

So with that last statement Im guessing this needs to have root access to get to /data/local

For my method yes. If you follow the op's instructions, I'm not sure. Rooting honestly takes less than a minute, well worth it for the added functionalities

Yep ... Not uncommon. Just a slideshow with the parameters set in the "desc.txt" file of the bootanimation zip file. Umm ... isn't that all that video is anyway? A bunch of stills being played as a slideshow in some type of media player? ;)

No. You do not need to be rooted. You may need to down load drivers. When I get home ill look and see if I can find more info. I've done it a bunch of times before I rooted

I am able to get to the tools folder but I am not able to load the animation. after I type the push animation command I get a system cannot find the path specified. My droid is not rooted.

Yup, adding those drvers seemed to fix it with WinXP. Thanks

I am new to the smart phone market so sorry if this seems a little dumb, but I was wondering if this would work with a Droid Eris? My brother has a Motorola Droid and I love this boot animation! Is there any way I could get it without rooting the phone?
    Thanks!

Tried it a thousand times and it kept giving me problems.... syntax is incorrect, etc.

    I give up.

sorry, not too sure what is wrong. Did you download the drivers or the ABD? Maybe someone with a little more knowledge will speak up.

I will pay you $30 bucks with paypal to make a boot animation of optimus prime transforming. Would like it to be from truck to robot, if I find a good video of it would that be easier? I imagine you could just grab enough stills from it right? PM me if you think it's worth your time.
