I just got a Samsung Note 8, love it, so far. I have a question about some of the icons that appear on this phone. I don't know if this matters, but the phone is unlocked.
Anyway, some icons appear in duplicate, with the second having a tiny orange briefcase in the lower right-hand corner. What does this denote?

Did you restore a backup of another phone on this device?
Are you using a 3rd party launcher?

    GO launcher perhaps?

If so , try this: GoLauncher settings screen, on News tab and mark all news Read and the box won't show up again

Your comment got me looking around and I found that the icons are there to denote the profile which you're using to open an app:
