email and facebook question

I have an htc hero and I love it, but have a couple questions. First, does anyone know if it is possible for the facebook app to have notifications or is it all through email? Second, I was getting email notifications very quickly untill 2 days ago when they all stopped, and as of yesterday I could at least view new emails though I was not getting a notification, but now I'm not getting the new emails or the notification... what happened?

I can't speak as a Hero user, as I am currently using a Desire. However, the Android Facebook app isn't as polished as the app on Blackberry and the iPhone. You can only receive notifications for inbox messages and events, and not wall posts, status updates etc.
