Eris Locked Up and I Can't Shut it Down

Since the 2.1 OTA update, my Droid Eris has been a little slower and little buggy. Which I'm not that concerned about. But today, I cannot drag down to unlock my screen. When I hit menu, it does nothing. Is there another way to shut down the phone when you cannot unlock the screen?

'Sorry if this is an utter newb question, but I think if I can power down an restart the phone, I may be able to unlock my screen.

Pull your battery...put battery back in...reboot

I pulled the battery & it's fine now. I read that several Eris users are having the same issue after the 2.1 OTA update.
