I just got the snap on hard case for my Epic and DAM! that thing is bigger than Evo I think. Its just slightly narrower but about 1/4 inch longer and yes THICKER by quite a bit it seems.

Well it would seem wrong unless you consider .06" or 1.5mm to be "quite a bit" thicker...

And FunDroid?

I think you just proved to the world your .... must be like really tiny. You know, the thickness of your phone really doesn't give her any more pleasure.

-It has a slide out keyboard. Of course it's going to be thicker.

-It has a smaller screen, so it should be narrower (though not necessarily, because the rim around the edge of the Samsung Moment was freaking huge and I wouldn't be surprised if they continued that trend).

-It's longer because, again as they did with the Moment (and pretty much every other phone they make), they waste vast amounts of space across the top and bottom of the screen for manufacturer and retail advertising. So it makes the phone look like...

Meanwhile, HTC produces their stuff all crammed together to make the most of it's surface area.

That was uncalled for...

Besides, you can tell where his preferences are. He is reviewing the Epic but he still has the Evo for his avatar. So ease up, he's not jumping ship. He's just checking out the competition.

Gentlemen, kindly relax on the name calling.. take it outside..

Fundroid, appreciate your enthusiasm on the epic, however do note this is the EVO forum. there is an EPIC forum on this site. we all can stop there if we need to know about the EPIC. there is no need for you to continually post about cases, etc for the EPIC here mmkay?

i appreciate your understanding... :D

FWIW - the snap-on hard case for my Moment degraded it's slide-out keyboard integrity very quickly.

The little ears that reach around and do the actual snapping-on creates a shear force on the slide mechanism that's orthogonal to its elastic dimension.

IOW - place your phone in front of you, left-right is X, towards you is Y, up/down is Z.

As you slide the keyboard out, that's Y movement.

The snap-on case is stressing the hinge mechanism in the Z direction if it in any way goes just slightly around the edges.

My Moment got loose in less than 3 weeks of use of that.

Your case may be different for the Epic, but forewarned is forearmed.

PS - Sorry marctronixx - stopped at the no name calling; just saw the admonition to not post about cases here. Was more concerned about someone not damaging a new phone, jumped the gun.

I'm sorry I couldn't help but to laugh at this. It's funny how HTC makes a couple of new phones with impressive screens and then we forget all about it's past devices. Well my HTC pro has a tiny 2.8" screen while it could've easily have had a 3.5" screen with all the real estate the casing takes up :p. Just a bit funny IMO. I want an Evo badly though and hope to buy 1 in a week or 2.

Well then, you have brought a new and very important point. HTC apparently has the ability to learn from design mistakes, while Samsung doesn't.

Well, we still haven't seen what Samsung will do with their GPS issues. I doubt they will be as accurate as the Evo's but who knows... Miracles do happen. :)

Benchmarks is not everything, especially if not all the features work. For me, the Evo does everything I want it to do except download my digital copy movies.

I would rather have a slightly slower phone with every features working great, with outstanding support than a slightly faster phone with a manufacturer who will leave you out in the cold once they've sold their last unit.

Thanks! That stupid 2.1 comparison's irrelevancy in the face of 2.2 has already been laughed out of every thread it's appeared in.

Thanks for demonstrating your unique ability to post something stoopid without reading prior posts.

We have a deal - you only get to discuss facts that you're qualified to handle.

Here's one now - there are 16 ounces in 1 pound.

Good point. Just felt like pointing out that my touch pro has wasted real estate. Hopefully HTC does stick to this and continues to make phones like the Evo. I do prefer the Evo over the eic though because of its massive screen:D.

I prefer SAMSUNG EPIC.I did love my htc hero phone. However, htc is no longer the only one that can make decent android smartphones. I like to see how Samsung,Motorola,LG,Sony Ericsson offers something different and refreshing in addition to what htc can does. Smartphone market is not fully mature yet,so we have to wait and see who will turn out as the leader. Samsung or motorola or htc cannot be called the leader yet. By judging how awesome Epic 4G is, the competition is getting hot!

I'm coming from a Samsumg Moment and after dealing with all of the headaches with that phone I'm picking the Evo. The Galaxy S phones have the issue with GPS which the Moment has as well, so I don't see a fix in sight.

Would it be possible to sand/grind these areas down slightly without totally damaging the case? Thanks for the heads up by the way.

That's a very good question - without trying it, I don't know for sure.

I would offer that if attempted, I'd personally try to lap it with something fine like emery cloth or paper - a super-fine nail file might do. I'd go very slow to avoid creating stress cracks in those ears that would lead to them snapping off - and to not do it while they're on the phone (plastic dust can't be a friend to any part of the phone).

The ears on mine seemed minimal - but weren't minimal enough. If you have to press even the tiniest bit to complete keyboard closure, I'd avoid that case until a solution's well in hand.

No prob on the heads up - we're all in this together.

Not even a comparison or something for me to even think about. I buy HTC and HTC only. I think HTC is the best at what they do and I love their devices. Of course these are not facts, but simply my opinion. I have had Samsung devices in the past and they are very well made just not for me anymore. I honestly cant see myself ever buying something other than HTC unless they really fall off of their game, or other companys really step up their game. Plus, the Evo is just SOOOO SEXY!!! How could any one look at the Evo and the Epic and choose the Epic? I just dont get it...of course though, every one does have their own opinions...after all, that is what makes the world go round.

For me, I don't have brand loyalty. I'll quickly switch to another brand if I see that there is something that the other phone can do (which I can use on a regular basis) that my phone can't. I also tend to check the brand's history, if they've been good with support, are there many complaints about their past products and have they resolved these complaints before cutting support. I don't trust Samsung simply because of issues that wasn't resolved in the Moment and Behold II. Yes history is the past, but you should also learn from history. I might consider Samsung in the future (dare I say switch?), once I see Samsung has addressed all the issues surrounding the Epic.

Specs wise, I see the Epic as a better phone. But in the world of usability, I'd say for my purpose, they would both meet my needs. So let's see what Epic users say once they get their phone. I tend to believe user reviews more than sites like endgadget. I beleive Endgadget have some interests that might render their reviews biased. :)

EDIT: Of course another consideration for my switch if all of the above conditions are met, is my time to renew w/o buying the phone outright. :)

Count me in as someone else who...TODAY...would only buy HTC. Just both trust them the most and have the beat aesthetic similarities. Today. Ask me again in 2 years. Maybe someone then gotten even better. So not so much brand loyalty. I just know what and why I like certain brands. For phones, that is only HTC for me right now.
