Help Evo issues (excessive data, bad battery, random reboots) magic bullet? Facebook sync

In tracking and experiencing some of the strange Evo issues of excessive data use, intermittent short battery life and spontaneous reboots, a common culprit has become the leading suspect: Facebook for HTC Sense, particularly its contact/people syncing capability. It appears to get stuck downloading like crazy.

I am suspicious that this massive data demand can possibly cause all of those issues for various reasons. So if you are having any of these issues, try turning off your automatic facebook syncing (in settings > accounts & sync > facebook for HTC sense > uncheck sync contacts and sync live feed). IMO there's no real need to sync live feed (friend stream and the sense facebook widget suck anyway) and contacts can be manually synced as needed.

Note about the reboot issue: The general fix has been to turn ON settings > wireless & networks > always-on mobile, if you had turned it off for battery reasons. In lieu of this, people having reboots, please test turning off facebook sync first and seeing if that helps (and pls report).

These phones use Lithium Polymer/Lithium Ion batteries. Li-Po batteries really don't need any calibration. I use them on Remote Control Planes and the only thing you have to watch out for is if storing, only charge to 50% and never overcharge them. They explode nicely (don't ask!). These types of batteries do not have memory. They will lose capacity over time. So if the calibration thing is working, I assume it has to do with software on the phone and not the battery.

From previous posts:

Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.)

Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off.

After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone.

now.... with the phone fully powered off...

1. Unplug the charger.

2. Wait until led goes off.

3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1.

4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle. Typically only about 1 minute. though.
