I'm sure the larger number of post have something to do with it, but you have to admit the sheer volume of issue-related posts is pretty high for any phone. The biggest concern is that they are so varied. True, the main complaint seems to be signal strength. But I've seem multiple posts concerning screen issues, battery life, lag, texts going to wrong recipients, music disappearing from internal memory, bootlooping when connecting to wifi, high heat issues, email not syncing, contact picture issues, clicking noise...
And those are just the off the top of my head. While the majority of these complaints seem fixable with software updates, the simple reality is, no phone should be released with THIS many bugs in it. Period. This is why a lot of the complaints seem to be from people who bought the phone as just an upgrade and not necessarily from those that eagerly waited for the phone's launch.
If you really wanted the phone badly, you'll be more willing to put up with some issues than someone who simply wanted to upgrade to a better device. Otherwise, how could anyone justify posts that say things like "I love the phone so much, I'm willing to put up with just having 3G until 4G gets fixed." Wait, what? What objective consumer in his right mind would be willing to buy a phone that promises 4G but doesn't deliver after purchase?
Most consumers would be far better off with the rezound. It might not be as fast or have the latest software, but like the iPhone, it just works. Emails sync, screen looks good, texts go to the right people, and the 4G signal is strong and consistent.
