As Pioneers’ migrations pass the 14 day post-migration pending period, many are now able to transfer their unlocked Pi on the Mainnet blockchain. We’ve loved seeing the many Pi “Pizza” barter moments on social media all over the world. We’re working to enable KYC for the rest of the community and prepare the platform & ecosystem for Mainnet. Pioneers should submit KYC when invited and then complete the Mainnet Checklist to initiate Mainnet migration.

Is this app a wallet? Will we hold our own private / public keys? And can we use an external wallet to hold our Pi in the future?
Yes, your phones will serve as a cryptocurrency wallet that will be linked to your current accounts (number / Facebook). Read less

Like with any other public blockchain, Pi’s blockchain will also allow in-app/external wallets to hold Pi and transact with it, by submitting transactions to the blockchain directly. This is a functionality that we have currently scheduled to be provided on the Phase 3 of the project. (as a reminder we are now on phase 1 - distribution of the currency - we will then launch a Testnet as phase 2, and phase 3 is when our mainnet will be live). During phase 3 of the project, you will also have the option to take full ownership of your private / public keys.
Pi aims to be much more accessible to everyday people which is why we are trying to build this integrated interface. We’ve chosen this phased implementation to make it easier for everyday people to use. We are still in our early days, and are excited for the road ahead of us.

Pioneers, beware of individuals impersonating official Pi Network-affiliated accounts or the Founders! Tap “Official Accounts” above for a full, updated list of all official Pi Network communication channels. Any account not included in this list is NOT associated with Pi Network or the Pi Core Team in ANY way. Tap “Share” to share this list with your network as well :)

Pi Ledger And Shared Trust Graph - Scaling Trust Across The Web
One of the biggest challenges on the internet is knowing who to trust. Today, we rely on the rating systems of providers such as Amazon, eBay, Yelp, to know who we can transact with on the internet. Despite the fact that we, customers, do the hard work of rating and reviewing our peers, these internet intermediaries capture the lionshare of the value created this work.

Pi’s consensus algorithm, described above, creates a native trust layer that scales trust on the web without intermediaries. While the value of just one individual’s Security Circle is small, the aggregate of our individual security circles build a global “trust graph” that help people understand who on the Pi Network can be trusted. The Pi Network’s global trust graph will facilitate transactions between strangers that would not have otherwise been possible. Pi’s native currency, in turn, allows everyone who contributes to the security of the network to capture a share of the value they have helped create.

Remember that on October 1st, 2022, the base mining rate will adjust again as part of its monthly adjustment based on the rewards issuance formula released in March 2022 (effective March 14). The new mining mechanism enables Pioneers to boost their individual mining rate through diverse contributions, including Pi Lockups, App usage, Node operations, security circles, and referrals. “Read More” for details, or “Boost Mining Rate” now!

Node tip:
as long as your node is running and you have opened the ports (very important that you test that your ports are open with a 3rd party port checker like https://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php )
If your ports are open - even if you are not "selected" to run a node, your node uptime is counted and you are rewarded for it. Bear in mind that if there are two (or more) people on the same home network running a node each, only one person's node will be counted as active (unless you've done something creative with your network routing or one/both are using a VPN)

Pi attends top university hackathons!

From October 14-16, the Pi Core Team sponsored and attended three Hackathons hosted at Harvard, Cornell, and UC Berkeley. This outreach is one of the Core Team’s efforts to build Pi’s utilities and infrastructure during the current Enclosed Network Period—introducing Pi Network to enthusiastic builders, educating creative young developers about Pi platform, and inviting and onboarding the next generation of developers to help build out Pi’s vision for the next generation of crypto.

Furthering that mission, students in these Hackathons learned about Pi Network, its community and platform SDK, and explored and built various prototypes of Pi apps for their innovative ideas on the Pi Developer Platform. Apps included games, health apps, NTF apps, apps with environmental impact and more that help broaden the types of Pi apps that can be built on Pi platform and demonstrate the platform’s potential to achieve true utility for the Pi ecosystem to mature and flourish.

Furthermore, as part of the preparation for these Hackathons, the Core Team has made great progress in the development of key Pi Developer resources and released more complete tools for Pi app developers in general.

For example, we’ve updated the Developer Portal with many new features such as a clearer and more instructive app registration process with an "App Checklist" to help developers get their apps up and running. You can experience the new Portal updates yourself at develop.pi in the Pi Browser. We released and improved the demo app and our SDK API so that developers can set up and test a Pi app much more easily. Also, for improved documentation for developers, we released (and are continuously improving) a new developer Onboarding Guide that helps developers learn about the Pi Ecosystem and building on Pi.

These resources can help not only the hackathon participants but also our established Pioneers and community developers in creating new Pi apps and utilities for the network.

As we continue our initiative, we hope to feature top Hackathon Pi apps that continue to be developed and improved in the following weeks. In the meantime, here’s a look at some Pi Core Team members in action at these events:

Core Team member Swaroop Poudel at Cornell University.

Of course, we also appreciate all the Core Team members working together behind the scenes to make all of this possible––and you, the Pioneers who’ve supported and believed in us every step of the way.

We’re also thinking about how to scale the network’s reach in the future with community-led efforts to participate in top universities events and hackathons and engage with top developers around the world. Innovative ideas from the community are welcome.

Pi Network is two weeks into its first 2023 Hackathon! So far, we’ve had 4,377 Hackathon participants on Brainstorm, and a significant number of projects indicated they would use the PiOS license. Interested in joining our collective efforts to build real utilities for the Pi Ecosystem? Tap on “Instructions” to learn how, or “SDK” to watch a video workshop where Core Team members guided prospective developers on the basics of how to develop an app on Pi.

While we are excited to see the midpoint submissions, the deadline has been extended to February 14, 2023 due to delays incurred by system maintenance and platform inaccessibility. Developers may experience difficulty in accessing the SDK. Teams who are using the PiOS license in their final project are eligible to receive a reward of 20pi for completing a thoughtful midpoint submission. This is an optional, but highly recommended, step in the hackathon. Tap the “Read More” button for more information on what to include in your video, and instructions on how to submit.
