Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

The Gingerbread updates have RUINED my EVO which has run flawlessly for over a year. My phone now takes over 4 minutes to reboot, the lock screen bar freezes over 50% of the time, the notification bar is only accessible in landscape mode, icons and widgets behave very erratically very often, the touch sensitive screen freezes OFTEN. Finally, there is so much lag, that i can barely scroll through my list of over 700 contacts. ALL IN ALL MY PHONE IS ****ED UP SINCE THE GINGERBREAD UPDATES. GREAT JOB GOOGLE.

i'm on day 2 of gingerbread and after getting the fix this morning, the only problems i have now are no netflix in the market, shootme no longer working (boo!), and sometimes my keyboard doesn't load properly. it tries to come up but its just a black box for a few seconds, the keyboard tries to pop up but gets a bit stuck, and then it finally loads. i haven't tried the compass yet, but i never used it anyway.

so far everything else works great. very smooth and fast. i've also noticed an improvement when connecting my evo to my pc. with froyo, i'd plug the phone in and it would take forever to show up on my pc, i'd wait.. and wait.. and wait... but now when i plug it in, it pops up almost instantly.

My Yahoo mail stopped working on the Evo 4G late last night. Additionally, the news feed on Facebook shows empty. I was running Gingerbread 2.3.3. This morning, I did the 6/21/11 upgrade. They still don't work.

I can use my PC to retrieve Yahoo email. But it does not show anything on Evo 4G. On FB, it also shows lots of news feeds on a PC. But Evo 4G's FB shows empty events.

Anyone else has similar issues?

For those of you who have tried every trick to get rid of the voicemail notification and still can't, just call sprint or contact them through online chat, and ask them to rest your network or w/e they do. I had that problem the very first day of manual OTA GB updates, made that phone call to Sprint and haven't seen the notification since.

For those of you having issues with voice search, I just noticed that there's an update in the market for that.

It's a native program when I got the EVO.
Basically, I've never had to update it as an app or notified as such.
How does one go about finding it's version #?

NEVERMIND - found it!

settings > apps > manage apps > all apps > voice search

the version number should b right under it

if you meant the on on the market just dl it as its newer then the one installed on the evo

I stopped getting mail under the generic mail icon from yahoo as well, stoped at a sprint store and was told to download yahoo mail from the market, it works, but it is b.s. that everytime they make this phone better, I lose something, pandora, voice recognition, email, etc. jim:mad:

On Friday I spent at least 2 hours in a sprint store, most of it on hold w/techs and retention specialists. I explained that I was happy w/evo til gingerbread, and wasn't happy paying full bill for less phone. Tech at store held my phone for an hour while I walked the mall, then when I got back told me to wait for the update. I explained the update wasn't suposed to fix voice recognition, which is one of my major beefs. He started me on the phone tag/waiting on hold game, and I worked my way up? to a frank pelligrini from sprint in new mexico, he asked me all the same questons, even talked to the tech for 10 minutes or so, told me he would have his uber tech call me around 4:30 pm, my time to talk me through fixing my phone, call never came and I am getting no response since Monday from Frank, after leaving 3 voicemails. Jim

Do a search for issues with Yahoo mail using a mail client (either POP3 or IMAP) and you will see that the issue is Yahoo and not the mail clients. They charge for POP3 access and would rather you use their app and interface to access their email system. Voice has been updated in the Android Market by Google (within the last hour). Keep in mind I am not attacking you or anything and it sucks that you are having issues. Anytime you upgrade an OS, whether it be Android, iOS, Windows, OSX, Lunux, etc you are going to have application issues or hardware issues or bugfixes that break something else. There are just so many variables. I realize how frustrating it gets.

Go to the market and do a search for Voice Search and download it (the one made by Google) This may fix your issue.

Mine is a native program also, as it is for all the EVO's, but updates for different apps that are pre-installed still go through the market anyway.

-EDIT- That's what I get for glancing, instead of reading. Glad you found it. Hopefully, that'll fix whatever problems people have been experiencing with it.

For some reason, my phone hasn't had the same issue. Then again, I don't really use Voice search without my bluetooth on.

I can't see my path when I use Swype now. I just dl'ed the ginger patch that Spring put out today. Now when I Swype the white line that shows the path you just typed doesn't appear.
Weird.

Well got the "fix" update. Didn't fix anything for me. Still have the generic app icons in folders deal. It's kinda bugging me that we don't get a sense update. My friend has an EVO shift and got sense 2.1 witch is way better. It has all the cool stuff like recent apps in the app drawer and notification menu. Plus quick setting in the notification drop down. This sucks. If its cuz we don't have as much internal storage then they need to get rid of some bloat to give us enough back.

every since I updated to the latest update gingerbread, my (call history) no longer displays how long I was on a call, this is really making me mad, why on earth would this update remove that feature is beyond me, is there a way to get it back to display the length of time I was on a phone call in my call long, this feature has always been on my EVO since I bought it, any help or suggestions guys?

I just noticed a new widget, named traffic. It wasn't included in the update from a few weeks ago.

I appears this widget tell you how long to a particular destination. You enter a name then an address, then the widget will give tell you the time to get to that destination. If you click it will bring up Google maps with traffic information.

that is pretty nifty, although I do not trust Google Traffic AT ALL. If driving far and worried about traffic I personally still prefer my Garmin

The camera performance with flash is great now! Close up pics always used to blow out, now the camera can expose those shots correctly.

I haven't read anyone else mention this, but this morning after I updated an appointment on my calendar then hit the return button to go back to the home screen it was rotated. I was holding the phone in the vertical position so it rotated back pretty quickly. I've tried to duplicate it and can't, sure wish it would do that on a consistent basis.
