Developers are trying to make money with their applications. They're not stupid enough to alienate 99.9% of android users.

Not necessarily true. Browsing the market on the Incredible, one can find a slew of apps that are specific to other handsets.

It doesn't show up in the market, but it still shows up in the downloads section in the menu for me. If I click on it that way, it shows up. So, it's not GONE gone. I have an app on my phone that I downloaded from the market that was removed from the market. It no longer shows up on my list of downloaded apps.

I'm linking it here because I downloaded it and it's safe. The link here just contains a rar with the .apk for Handcent. It's the 3.0.4 version, if anyone is interested.

I downloaded 3.0.4 to my PC and can open the install Wizard, then it says connect your mobile phone (HTC Desire) which I do with the USB cable but it doesn't give me the NEXT button option. What am I doing wrong?

Copy the .apk to your sd card and install it using your phone rather than your pc.

Before you do anything, go to Settings>Applications and make sure Unknown sources is checked. Then, using a file manager such as Astro, just browse to the .apk that you placed on your sd card and click on it.

Until the market's fixed, you're not going to be able to find it in the market or update via that method. Instead, you'll have to go to the link posted earlier in the thread and download it directly from the dev.
