Handcent question

So I got handcent today, and I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. One tiny problem though, when I receive a text, I still receive it on the stock messaging app and also on handcent, so I'm getting 2 notifications for the same text and having to read it in the stock messenging app to clear the notification. How do I get rid of that?

Thanks

thanbut will I still be receving the messages in there as well? If so, how do I stop that so that only Handcent receives the messages?

It's not relevant that you still receive them, just ignore the application. You'll only get the handcent notification. As far as I know, handcent uses the stock messaging app as a framework.

ok cool, thanks. The reason I'm asking is I'm just wondering whether all the messages will be stored as unread in the stock app and I'll have to go in there to tidy up once in a while? And whether that will affect my space at all

Don't think you can. Even though the messages are in both, my guess would be that they are not stored twice, but its just that both apps read them from the same store.

But could be totally wrong!

As far as my understanding goes, the messages are just stored in the stock app and cleared up according to the settings you assign in Handcent. It's basically a user interface that is used to control the stock messaging app, from what I can gather. But I could be barking up the wrong tree.

Handcent I think gets the messages from the stock app. When you delete them in Handcent, they delete in the stock app too. You just need to get rid of the stock widget from the home screen and replace it with the Handcent one.

I've uninstalled Handcent now because the last few updates have made it really laggy, even when I have a clear inbox. :(

I don't suppose anyone knows of a way to retrieve when a message was sent - for example if the phone's switched off, on other mobiles I've owned you can see when a message was sent?

Yes, if you have the delivery reports enabled, they are stored until you delete them. I can't remember how to get to it though, like I said I've uninstalled now.

Go into the settings menu and select 'receive message settings' then tick 'delivery reports'. When you send a message a clock icon will be shown next to the message, then it will turn into a tick icon when the delivery report is received. If you press the tick it will give you the phone number, date and time the message was received.

i also have handcent. just a few questions.

1. does anyone know how to save a phone number written in the sms in handcent?

2. how do i insert a contact name and number as text in a sms?

It should be highlighed in blue - just tap and hold, and you get the option to call it or save it to contacts

Can't help with part 2 - as I've already explained, I've removed Handcent now until they can fix the lagging issue.

cool thanks! or is there another sms app than handcent or chompsms?

i used to have chompsms. but giving me some problems.

Er......sounds daft but...the stock one?!!

I know there aren't many settings to play with, but it's so much more stable than the much more bloated messaging apps on the market.

Since removing Handcent SMS, I've noticed a much better, and more responsive SMSing experience (and MMS now works first time, every time too!)

I'm not talking about delivery reports - I would like to know how to see when someone's sent me a message - I know when I've sent one to them! lol. For example, your phones not been switched on, and you receive a message when you switch your phone on, but you cannot tell when it was sent.

On previous phones I could go into a menu to see when that other person sent you the message.

handcent is gettin bit laggy after the recent updates :-(

Yep - great app on the whole but I've gone back to the stock app for the time being. Both Handcent and ChompSMS gave me problems sending and receiving MMS in any event.

You look at the timestamp under the message...That's what it's there for! :p

Couldn't agree more!! Combined with Missed Reminder I'm now happy enough with texting on the Desire.
