Root Has anybody rooted using this tool?

Yes, boss
Those themes are similar...
And answer you give there- I also like to avoid radio update and try revolution hd (maybe is best to try with ORIGINAL radio and, if have problems, go on newest one).
Problem is that one who made it highly recommends update of radio...
Now I have rcmix 4.0 it is excellent rom, revolution is most popular -I just want to try both...

There's no problem with trying the standard radio with the ROM... it won't break the phone (as far as I am aware)... there are plenty of others on here who have changed ROM's plenty of times and not bothered changing their radio (I've never changed mine).

Like you say, you may want to try as is (with your current radio) and then, if there are any problems, change it.

From what others have said, it's not hard to flash a radio... it's only a little risky, as you can brick your phone with an incorrect radio flash! :)

Good, good... always nice to hear that we have another root convert amongst us - glad it all went fine!

Oh - welcome, by the way!! ;)
Thanks!

When I got my DHD, the game demo Asphalt was force closing every time I tried to play it, so I wanted to get rid of it. Telus didn't have any suggestions on how to fix it. They also told me I couldn't uninstall it. Oh, really :D

I just flashed BlackIce to try it out, and would just like to say....wow! This is one good ROM! Insanely fast and some really cool features. Haven't had a chance to calibrate the battery so will have to see how that goes tomorrow, but I would definitely recommend it to everyone

Here you are my good man - [ROM][AOSP][25Nov] -=BlackICEv1.24=- [NO TIME Ed.][2.3.7][LordModUE8.5CFS][OC2.0GHz] - xda-developers

There are some really nice tweaks/additions, such as a lower pixel density by default,(edit: I think its higher actually, everything on the screen is smaller and looks much nicer) the MIUI camera, transparent notification bar, and is now built on CM 7.2 RC0 (didn't even know there was one!)

Some screenshots I took -

I haven't tried out the wifi yet, but the 3g and voice work perfectly. As it is an AOSP rom there is no recommended radio, so you wouldn't need to change the one you have :)

Edit: tried out the wifi last night and this morning, had no problems whatsoever and the signal strength appears to be stronger than usual, although I can't confirm that

Just read the guide and the manual to the kit and it all seems very easy. Just wondering on the whole radio situation, so you don't have to flash a new one every time you install a new ROM? Probably going to go for MIUI because some of the screenshots i've seen look amazing. People say its recommended so is it worth it? Will i see a big difference in signal strength or wifi or something like that?

I'll probably root my phone using this kit tomorrow since im off to bed early today and the phones still charging.

Oh yeah crap, one other thing, can i use TB free to backup my unrooted phone then use the same backup to restore everything on the then rooted phone? Or does it not work like that? For now i've used ASTRO to backup my apps and copied my sd card to my desktop for contacts and everything else basically. I guess once i'm rooted and set up for the first time the only thing i'll need again after each ROM change is TB.

If you check my sticky at the top of this forum, there's a section on backing stuff up with Titanium. If you take a look at the CM7 install guide (also linked in the post), there's a bit on how to restore properly too.

For most folk, the same radio will suffice. The only ROM I've seen cause massive issues with a mismatched radio is ARHD but if you're going for MIUI, it should be fine.

What is your current radio? (It's Baseband version in Settings -> About Phone -> Software Info).

Cheers, my baseband version is 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2

The thing with TB is without a root i can't backup so the first time round i'll have to use another app. This is a backup just incase i lose data during the root process or something goes wrong. Last time i did a backup/reset gmail screwed up, got half my contacts and none of my apps, stupid thing. That's another story though.

Astro will backup your apps (not the paid ones though and not the data associated with them either).

If you run the hack kit though, I think I'm correct in assuming you don't lose anything, Whereby the previous methods, you had to downgrade to root and you lost everything, this just flashes an alternative radio and boot image uses the exploits to root them, then flashes back so your handset is as it was before you rooted.

Have you got your contacts etc backed up to gmail now yeah?

Fair enough, yeah got my contacts backed up and got a vcf card of them too just incase.

Good thinking.

Do you want your SMS backed up too? I've had mixed results restoring SMS with titanium so you're better using one of the SMS Backup & Restore apps on the market.

Nah don't need any of that, stuff like bookmarks, calender, dictionaries and what not can all be sorted in a few minutes so i have no problem doing that. Probably run this kit in about an hour and then get on the Miui ROM. Might look into a vanilla android as well. CM7 seems to be extremely popular so i should really research that in depth at the very least.

Finally rooted last night. Had a Pooh stripe moment towards the end but sorted it with helpfrom forum. Now running cm7 etc and wondered what next...

Have you read El Presidente's comments on Kernels and undervolting? From a battery point of view, it certainly is good!

What was that thing a while back that HTC had on all their phones recording everything? I heard there was no way to remove it without a root so i presume i can now remove it? What was the file called?

RED_ - I think I know what you are talking about... it was only on the stock HTC Rom... have you now got a custom ROM on your phone? If so, you shouldn't need to worry about it!
