    I found two foolproof methods.

    Please follow the steps exactly.

    Method 1
You will need the following items:
    1. Telescope
    2. Computer
    3. GPS Specification Manual
    4. Roof-top antenna
    5. 100' of noise-shielded coaxial cable
Use the telescope to locate between 8 and 10 GPS satellites in orbit. Once you have located the satellites use the computer to access the GPS specification manual. Using the specifications from the manual, modify the roof-top antenna to match the impedance and resistance in order to receive GPS signals, and aim the antenna at the closest of the 10 GPS sats. Use the 100' of noise-shielded coaxial cable to connect the roof-top anetenna to the external antenna connector on the back of the phone underneath the battery cover. Viola! Your GPS is fixed!

    Method 2
    1. Put Captivate and accessories in original box
    2. Return Captivate to AT&T store
    3. Argue with manager over $35 restock fee
    4. Purchase a different, non-defective wireless handset
    Congratulations, your GPS is fixed!

If you bought it from Walmart via letstalk.com, then you would have a fight on your hands to get them to do it. Letstalk is rather difficult to work with - they're owned by the same shady company that runs Wirefly. If Walmart sells it in store - I don't know - then you can probably do it that way with less hassle. I've no experience with Walmart's return policies.

Or I could just wait for the software update. But thanks for another trollish post. By the way - it hasn't even been out for a month so there is no restocking fee.

Why not just post in the official taking it back because I shouldn't have bought it in the first place thread...

Yea there is not suppose to be restocking but I have heard/read several post and people telling me that they have tried to charge them the restocking fee. It rlly sickens me to go into an AT&T store anymore all you hear is a bunch of none trained sales reps ranting about the iPhone 4 as the best phone in existence. Sorry anyways if you do take it back and they try ask for a manager and complain!

I know I have read somewhere on this forum about ppl taking the phones back, oh wait yes all 55 topics that are made a day lol

I am an every OS person, and i thought it was dumb... I hate the fact that i even spent time reading it. Glad, I don't have any GPS problems, then i really would be mad.

Let me guess, the OP Is getting an iPhone. It has not reception issues.

Instead of a "Thanks" button we should have a "Destroy" button.

Are you saying there is no stocking fee because the captivate has not been available for more than 30 days? I am returning mine this week and would like to avoid $35 restocking. Is this an AT&T policy? From where?

I went for Method 1, GPS fixed but now I hear some weird noise coming from the phone. I think I hacked into some some alien chatting. Damn! This phone is awesome! :D

I thought it was kind of funny, but there's been a lot of these threads from people who were like, "OMG YOU JUST HAVE TO RETURN THE PHONE AND THEN YOU GET BETTER SIGNAL." A few days later they then post, "Ok so about that better signal... we really need a software update for this stuffs."

Do you live near Area 51? I had that problem with alien gibberish whenever I had a phone call and it was impossible to get any word in edgewise. We kicked the concrete blocks out and moved the trailerhome on over to Area 52 - everything has been fine since.
