Htc Desire only has 398mb's of ram, when its advertised as 512?

I know memory is always smaller but still.

No different to the HDD in a computer - RAM used to run it before you add anything yourself.

Would be nice if the specs on either reflected the "real world", but I guess it's describing the actual RAM fitted, not the actual amount available. In which case, theoretically it's correct - just not overly truthful.

Nothing wrong with that... There's a 512mb module installed but a certain amount always gets reserved for the OS, the rest is yours to do what you will with... So use it wisely
