I am not impressed with Android phones, yet

@LightSpeed1

Have you handled a windows 7 phone in real life? Right.
And by the looks of things you will have a hard time convincing anyone you've ever even handled an android phone. Your ignorant unfounded rants appear to be nothing more than WANNABE fanboyism which is both futile and hilarious. I see no reason why you shouldn't continue...

explain what? why blackberrys are horrible? go use one. its an archaic OS

Umm, yes the OS is archaic - but "horrible" is a bit relative, don't you think? Horrible for you maybe, but Blackberry is still well ahead for e-mail than any other OS out there. It may not matter as much to some as others, but if e-mail is critical - Blackberry still comes out ahead.

I'm backing out of this debate. I want to apologize, first off, for even bringing this topic up and debating it to begin with.

Each OS has benefits and downfalls, and as Android continues to grow towards it's third version, I'm confident that Google will bring it closer and closer to OS perfection. Windows 7 Phone's OS in my opinion is lesser only due to how Microsoft is choosing to handle its software - much like Apple and their iOS. You won't see very many apps from "Joe Schmoe" from Nowhere, USA on WP7 or iOS. The reason I love Android is that it allows anyone and everyone a chance to start a new application, build it, and distribute it.

Windows 7 Phone looks absolutely kick arse, much better than the iPhone, but it does what I absolutely loathe both Apple and Microsoft for doing. It keeps users out, so that only developers with larger resources can take a project to completion. Say Joe Schmoe has an amazing idea for the way his phone should work. Android is the only platform that allows him to easily create, test, develop and distribue his new idea with no limitations. Microsoft and Apple will keep him out of core functions or shut him down, especially if his idea fiddles with their baby's core OS. Take iOS for example. Currently, developers aren't allowed to go anywhere near making a replacement for the default music player. It's a case of "Apple knows best." Even if I had an idea that would revolutionize how we interact with our music on our iPhones, there's no way for me to develop it on any platform but Android.

I don't debate that WP7 is the best designed OS, or that iOS has "unity" down to a tee. Android is the only one that not only allows it's user-base to make infinite changes, it encourages it.

You my friend need help. It doesn't matter how old a OS is. If it works well it doesn't need to be overhauled.

New flashy looking OS's are to attract people with there apps and etc. Apple set the bar with the Iphizzle and everyone is following. Palm has a great OS, but no apps compared to Apple and Android. I bet you think Palm is junk too?

I have had pretty much every phone out there including a BB.

I guess in your case ignorance is bliss??

When I heard Google was coming out with its own phone OS I was very excited. I am like most in I.T. an avid Googler, and hate to conform to Win32 type of socialism.

I know since most everyone out there uses Google exclusively too, but there are a lot of things Google does to set itself out for the corporate norm.

When heard the "droid" was coming the Verizon I was over-joyed, and could not believe that I would have the opportunity to get my hands on a "real" smart-phone other than the iPhone (not a big fan of Apple, and Steve Jobs fascist ways).

Sadly though I bought an A855 (droid w.\froyo), but I am so disappointed with it I can't bare to vocalize about it anywhere but a forum of like minded peers.

The phones battery life makes it useless to me! I have less than 12 hours and I know it will be critical! I have to always make sure wireless, Bluetooth and GPS receiver are powered off when not in use, and at times the account synchronizer as well to preserve battery life. I cannot install half of the apps I would like to because either the battery life worsens, or the device runs out of memory.

I have gotten to the point now where I am regret I ever made the jump to Android, and sadly considering an iPhone (if and when it ever comes to Verizon). My colleagues who own iPhones never complain about the same limitations as I am regarding lack of space, and poor battery life, and I am envious of that!

Am I alone in feeling this way, or are there others out there with same issues? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help extend the battery life? ...anything because it has been less than a year and I am ready to throw it away!

You mention Apple, Political terms/status's and carriers in the same post.

That's just asking for a shit storm of EPIC and INCREDIBLE proportions it just might EVOlve into a NEXUS of trouble.

Then you go on and make some common sense complaints to boot.

How long did you expect a 1GHZ processor that fits in your pocket, gets broadband speeds anywhere you go, with 3 different types of radios, in which at least one of the is always active (sans ap mode), a camera, gps, and more, batteries to last?

(oh and you can hold it any way you want.)
