I miss the 1.5 boot animation!

Hi,
The topic says it all. I love 2.1 on the Droid Eris, but miss the little green guys that peek out at you and the sound they make during boot up. Any way to bring them back on a 2.1 setup without root? Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

I definitely liked the little waving droid guys more than the skateboarding ones. They kept the wrong part of the animation. It does seem to boot faster in 2.1 though.

Double smart huh? I miss the HTC symbol and "X-Files" theme sound when in the final bootup sequence.

I had 1.5 and my phone always did the Verizon "red smoke" animation. I had never seen the androids peeking out until I was playing with a Hero the the other day and thought it was really cool that it made sound.

EDIT: The waving droids animation linked wasn't the one I saw on the hero.

So how do you get sound in there?

Someone on XDA did a teriffic job figuring it out. You need to delete bootanimation.zip form /data/local if there is one there, delete it from /system/media if it's there, and put the 'bootscreen' folder from the 1.5 into your 2.1 /system/media.

Works perfectly, as long as you're on an Eris ROM and not a Sprint or other based ROM.

It really isn't. Just follow the how-to word for word, and you should have no problems. The worst that would happen, is that your bootscreen doesn't work, and the screen just shows black while its starting up.

It said root required. I wonder if the files in that post could be converted into a bootanimation.zip for us non root folks. The files and audio are definitely the 1.5 bootscreen files! Can anyone help?
