Main 'sleeping' battery drain culprits that I've found are:
Active wallpaper. Which doesn't REALLY make sense to me, I wouldn't expect the wallpaper to be 'active' if the screen is not on, but it really sucked the juice on my tablet when I had one.
I've long since changed my wallpaper since I had other interests (though I'm going to be making another post on here about how to 'fix' it since I'm getting 1/3 of the image per screen instead of the same on all 5) Though I agree, if the screen is off there should be no drain... bad thread management...
Widgets. Weather, facebook and email widgets tend to draw power if they are updating too often. If you have one of these on your home screen check to see how often it's updating. Set them to as long an interval as you're comfortable with, including 'manual' if it's on option on the particular widget.
I shoudl have realized this but didnt - I have a "Weather" widget that updates reiduclously often, as well as my email, both of which I can set to manual (if they're visible but not updating they wont drain battery, correct?)
Background synching processes for accounts. In Accounts and Settings, check which accounts are set to sync, and how often. Same as widgets, larger intervals between syncs save the battery.
I'll have to check this, I dont ever use my google account on the phone except to sync contacts so I can easily change that to daily...
Thank you for the suggestions!
That's pretty much it. Ditch the Live wallpaper (it wasn't a good idea on Windows - it still isn't a good idea).
It's sad because Live Wallpaper's predecessor, "Active Desktop" was a nice feature in 98SE and XP (I'd set it to my favorite webcomic, and every morning when I turned on my desktop I was greeted by the new strip sitting there on my desktop to read as everything started up)
Disable as many notification/sync/updates as possible.
Going to do this.
Disable all non-essential hardware services (GPS, Bluetooth).
BT is off, honestly I cant remember the last time I turned it on since the only purpose it would serve for me is to use my media remote (which is sadly not supported by android) and it seems to drain an insane amount of power for it's supposedly "low power consuption" reputation...
ugh! I keep turning off GPS but random services keep turning it back on for 'location data' that I dont need (like Google search, Aren't Linux command codes going to be the same if I'm searching from GA as from ND as from CA?!) Is there a way to make it ONLY turn on manually?
And IMHO? Pick up the TF dock. It isn't just a keyboard/mouse add on. The extra battery will give you INSANE standby times. You also get the benefit of essentially having BOTH a netbook and tablet in one unit, you get USB ports, the Android specific keyboard, a real mouse pointer and more.
I love my dock - and worries about battery life are pretty much gone.
I've got the dock and love it, though even it's tiny KB is too large to use in my car'd drivers seat (when parked! I wouldnt DARE type when driving) I try to keep it docked when not in use if only so I dont seperate them and forget it on my way out the door but I also like to read on the couch or in bed and prefer tablet mode and that's where it kills me because I set it down on the end table and forget it...
Thank you for the suggestions!
You can set your Wi-fi to turn off when the screen goes off.
Go to Wireless and Networks, Wi-fi disconnect policy, When screen turns off
Slatr
Is there a way to set it to turn off when screen if off >5 min and it's on battery? (there are times I'm reading or watching a video and the screen cuts off a moment or two) and at home when it's plugged it I like to let it do all it's app updates automatically to save me time on my cellular date on the road.
