ive had luck with chevys low volt 1.0 ghz kern and the latest cyanogen7 nightlys. i use ti backup to remove any apps i dont use like voice or the stock email programs, the cm staststics, fota kill, anything that says cm lol except the cm settings app(including the cm market installer). personally i use the yahoo app... all together i get alot of mem free... i multitask well too... just remeber to clear your cache and davilik cache and factory reset when you install it... and also remember, first flash the rom, gbapps then the kern... if you still need memory disable android keyboard in the settings and you will get another 10 mb free at all times furthermore format your sd card, it may contain old cache files for you droid which will bog it down... after a day of use it should re write em and it will be much faster the second day and after...

Removing apps from the ROM will only free up storage space, not operating memory, aka RAM - unless all those apps that you use run all the time. And Ive been running CM7 nightlies for 6 months now, and none of those that you mentioned actually run in the background all the time, and neither do they have services that run in the background either.

I have all of those apps left in there b/c removing them doesn't provide one iota of benefit. And my phone sits at ~45 MB free RAM at any given moment.

if you remove the app it cant run in operating memory cuz the app is missing from your Storage, plus you get more storage on the device.... this depends if the app uses memory... the stock android keyboard takes 10mb of operating mem(disable it in settings only if you can spell lol), the yahoo email app which is 5 mb of Storage takes 20 mb of operating mem... try it b4 you post an interjection... mine sits at like 103 free... believe me i had a lg ally which had even less to work with, and im sorry if i wasn't specific on which apps i remove and disable... the cm apps take up alot of operating mem because they send your statistics to them(all i leave is the cm settings app)... what proves me right is that my droid is not mem thrashing like yours is... 45mb free vs 103mb free...bty your email app runs all the time, you know it checks your email and gives you a notification, using ram...\/\/007 3@3Ч| 7]-[@7$ |337...

The app only takes operating memory when it is ... wait for it ....

operating. If it is not operating then it is not using operating memory.

I am pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. Ask around.

For example, if you have the email app (which comes with almost all flavors of ROMs these days) but you never run it, never once set it up, it does not use operating memory.

If you use an app,why would you remove it? If you don't use it, it won't run.

It really is that simple. the only exception would be if you have previously used it in the past and have stopped using it - then, most times, clearing data will prevent it from running again as it has no purpose, it's as if you've never used it.

There are a handful of apps that have running services in the background that start regardless of whether you've used them or not (Google's Honeycomb Music Player is a notorious one) but by and large, what I said holds true.

anyone know which nightly the auto-brightness and torch stopped working on? Or, more accurately, which was the last one they worked on?

Yes, cm_sholes_full-237.zip from Halloween 10-31-2011 is the last nightly with working torch. I've been running it ever since that, that is the most stable CM7 will ever get for the Droid since support for the Droid has officially been dropped by CM.

are you or anyone else able to upload the 237 nightly? The CM website no longer links to it. I'd like to help make the OG a little as I continue to wait for the nexus.

    thanks!
