I have recently had the same problem with my music grayed out. The listing was there but not acceptable. I was going through backup ass. and playing my music remotely from my computer, til that stopped working. So I went ahead and download all the music to my phone but the music that wasn't purchased through Itunes, I still can't play. So I now access my music through Google Play but still can't get songs that weren't itunes purchased.
