Pictures/Videos work on phone and then corrupt themselves (some, not all)

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom (SM-C101) Android Version 4.2.2 64gb SD Card, which is never even remotely close to full.

I was on a family vacation from the 20th-29th. Took hundreds of pictures and videos. On the 26th, things started to go funky. I took a video and then rewatched it on my phone and it was choppy toward the end. The next day, the video would not play at all on my phone anymore. It gave me an error message that said something like This Video Cannot Be Played. That didn't make sense, since it had already played for once before, so I downloaded it from the SD Card in my phone to my computer. It plays on my computer, but still has the choppiness where it did originally.

I didn't think anything of it, and kept taking pictures and videos on my phone. I would view the pictures and videos on my phone and everything was fine. Then I went to view the gallery again and a picture (that was previously okay) had an icon that implied the picture was broken. Here is the icon. https://www.dropbox.com/s/64eq4f3qde2wo2s/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-54-11.png?dl=0

But here's the weird thing. I could still click on the picture and view it. So I thought everything was fine. I checked back later and now more pictures in my gallery had this broken link, and some videos. Here is the video icon showing something was broken. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7cscwncicu0sq2c/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-54-17.png?dl=0 All of these pictures and videos were fine. They just started corrupting by themselves. And now, the original picture with the broken icon, was no longer viewable when I clicked on it. Here are screenshots showing my pictures/videos dropping like flies. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3otvg1qyrqclpb/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-53-33.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/0jrqkschavyoqv4/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-53-53.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/dltecstok0g61pj/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-54-03.png?dl=0 So I quickly downloaded the entire contents of the SD Card to my computer to try and save them. But all the pictures and videos with the broken link on my phone are not viewable on my computer.

I took a quick video on my camera to see if I could figure out was what wrong. I immediately replayed it and it played fine. After some time, now that video is corrupted and won't play. So something is damaging these pictures/videos after they are perfectly fine. And I am doing nothing. I'm not moving them, renaming them, nothing. And I've taken some pictures since this debacle and they are still perfectly fine. You can see in this screenshot https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3otvg1qyrqclpb/Screenshot_2014-08-30-06-53-33.png?dl=0 that I've taken three pictures since the broken video before it.

I believe the data behind these pictures/videos is still there and recoverable. I think this because these files have data and durations on them. See this screenshot. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pokfuvghqfie2jh/2014-08-30_7-04-14.png?dl=0 These are the pictures/videos as I'm browsing onto the phone as it's connected to my computer. Look at the file sizes. The data is there, I just can't view it. And if I go into the details on the videos, the durations of the videos are there.

Here are some screenshots of the details of the pictures/videos for throubleshooting. Anyone have an idea what is going on?

I have no issue reformatting the phone and reformatting the SD Card... eventually. But my biggest priority is to recover my family memories. My next priority is to try and prevent this from happening again. (I got this phone because my Note II started only recording audio intermittently on my videos and ruined my home videos.) And then lastly, I'd like to feel confident that I won't lose pictures and videos again. This is really unnerving, knowing your picture and videos can just start corrupting themselves, when you think they're safe on your phone.
