I've been reading threads on the forum, regarding the market's availability.

    The Questions:
Is it true that in some areas, you aren't able to access the market at full potential (Full access) ??
Is there a way to make it allow us to access all applications? If yes, is there a guide.

I am asking these prior of getting my HTC Hero, so in whatever circumstances/answers/facts I'm able to know the answer, and not bother myself to ask it later.

    Thanks;
    Eddie aka AndroidEd

To answer your questions: Yes and yes.

Some areas only have access to free apps.
I don't have the full list in my head, but I have seen it somewhere, perhaps in this forum. I know that this includes Scandinavia, and several other countries.

To get access you have to Root your phone and install Market Enabler.
There are several guides on how to do this, and you will most likely find them by a search of this forum, or use Google.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I have other questions now, since you answered my previous ones. Does rooting the phone have any side effects, cons, causes lag...?

    Thanks

Some applications are filtered by location too, for example the beebplayer app is only available in the UK.

Thanks for the reply, but I am looking for answers for this question:
Does rooting cause any bad side effects to the device, make it lag, cons...?

    Thanks again

There are lots of threads in the forum regarding rooting and the pros/cons. It can be quite a lively topic. ;)

I've just noticed that Google maps and Google voice search have disappeared from my market - they show on my downloads but not if I search for them - I know there are various market problems, but other apps that cause problems all show up. I'm not sure if this is related to my ROM or a temporary market issue?

I'll see if I can get all apps available, or some of them, I mainly need social networks apps only, for twitter, and facebook.

    Thanks

google maps gone for me too! google allow android 1.6 users to have the navigation service but not 1.5 users and us hero users didn't even get 1.6 update but have to wait for 2.0 which will take forever (especially if your on t-mobile uk like me, 2.73 update etc lol)

Not yet, their last twitter was some time ago telling us they are on it, I'm guessing they just want to spring in out of the blue as a christmas present for us, or at least i hope!

Its is a little odd that the G1 is more upto date than the hero?

HTC are reported to be introducing a new phone mid-Dec that features 2.0

I guess we will see 2.0 for the Hero after this new phone is released, mid-Dec onwards.......

Not really. The G1 has been on the market for much longer than the Hero, so has a larger user base. The Hero has only recently hit the N American market, and introducing a major update so soon would lead to confusion, as would releasing it only for selected markets. The G1 also doesn't have the added complication of SenseUI; HTC have to ensure that it works on top of Eclair and that it doesn't break established third-party apps.

Anyone having problems with the Market.

Lots of stuff missing, now it doesn't seem to be downloading for me.
It gets to the 'starting download' bit, but no further.
