Root root but no root?

i followed this:

at the end it said i got root, i did some stuff that requires root access. like the backup thing.

but when i try to do adfree android thing it says "unable to get root"

any ideas?

If you reboot into fastboot (the white screen) does it say s on or s off.

I had an app do that..uninstalled reinstalled and it worked fine after that

it actually says s-off

so does that mean root off?

should i root again?

S-off is what you want to see. You may want to flash a custom rom with superuser access. If I'm not mistaken, the rom loaded after unrEVOked does not have this.

I've got my Evo to the "Off" position, but I have yet to flash a ROM successfully. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Do you install the kernal first? The ROM first? I would love to read some clear and concise directions. I'm just about ready to go back to the iPhone. Flashing Windows Mobile phones was so much easier.

Its actually pretty simple.

1) Download the ROM you want then put it on the sdcard (not in a folder)

2) Power off the phone. Now hold the vol down button and the power button at the same time. This will bring you to a white screen with some options. After it runs its little check scroll down (using vol buttons to scroll) to recovery and press power. The phone will now boot into recovery.

3) when in recovery you want to wipe data, cache, dalvik cache (dalvik is in advanced on clockwork recovery)

4) Now select go back then select install zip from sdcard. Then select choose zip from sdcard. Now a lost should show up. Find the rom you downloaded and select it then confirm the selection. It will now install the rom. Once its done select reboot and you done.

The first time you flash a new rom it takes a while to boot up so just be patient.

FYI - You can flash a new kernel AFTER loading a new ROM. If you load yet another new ROM, it will come with it's own kernel as well.
