Root for Huawei Ascend Y H866C

test key is useless you need their key. and you cant edit that file without editing the kernel which you cant do without root.

i know i cant edit directly but i should update it using update.zip from the boot menu buy holding + vol and power. let me see what i can do in fedora.. and where could i get a copy of their key?

you cant flash a zip, the only people who have the key is the OEM.

Anyone check out huaweis cloud+ yet how about huaweis appstore hispace? There's an update to the backup manager and a treasure Trove of Chinese rooting apps I'm dying to try out

What are you expecting? I'm telling you that if you put one of these phones in my hand, I will have it rooted in under an hour. You already have somebody that says they will fork out $100 which would cover the price of the phone. Even in the case that I can't get it done, you'd still be able to take the thing back to the store and get your money back.

Are you are expecting somebody to magically know how to root a phone without ever having access to it?

Ive got the phone and im willing to send it to you!

I used your letter bomb for my wii a long time ago!
wasnt it called poot?

ive rooted with the poot-debug.apk for 865c
for h866c it gives error 22 su binary was not written and error 67 su binary was not written.

also with superoneclick i get Hellions with BLUE Flames!

idk what that means but im assuming it means it cant read my sdcard

cheers GP

No phones needed :)

giant prune said his poot root works then i guess we should prolly start there. i make no promises on root, if we get it ill try my hand at recovery for yall. then you guys can figure out roms/kernels.

poot doesnt work ive tried different versionsof it too as well as every superonelick and fastroot u can get your hands on.

then i downloaded huawei's hispace which is pretty hard to find. its got a lot of rooting apps in there and ive wentdown the whole list of them and nothing has worked. I know that superone click gives Hellions with Blue flames !

im a bit curious on how this exploit works... is there any specifics that would alert me that a phone is indeed vulnerable?

It uses CVE-2012-4220
US-CERT Vulnerability Note VU#702452 - Qualcomm Android OS kernel privilege escalation and denial of service vulnerabilites

https://www.codeaurora.org/particip...es/cve-2012-4220-cve-2012-4221-cve-2012-4222/

Affected phones would have to be based on the Qualcomm code base. The notes on qcom's website say that permission changes in ICS and later mitigated the bug by restricting access to the device, but this isnt always the case (poot works on the galaxy reverb).

thank you for the info good sir. chances are you might want to post in the galaxy rush forums then as well, it is the sister phone of the reverb (altho i got root on it with cwm a while ago).

would this be able to affect s4 chipsets provided they have really crappy updates/software? teh ZTE avid has the s4 and is currently rootless

what? why would i want a build.prop?

if you guys need assistance with CWM i can help with that but im not going to work on any roms/kernels. im merely talking with giantpune

Tried it. Spent 10 hours trying to get Linux mint to recognize it in download mode. No luck. Did everything EXACTLY like they said. Booted into download mode, it ignored my linux and linux ignored my phone. I installed the adb drivers, the works. no luck. Help, I just want to get rid of the bloatware so my phone is useful.

Poot worked great for me. Thanks! Next step is to figure out how to get the H866C USB in to diagnostics mode.

giantpune done real good. Donation made.

I was curious to try this poot-debug.apk on my LG Optimus Dynamic (LG38C), another Verizon Straight Talk phone, which had already been rooted both manually (jcase method on xda) and via rageagainstthecage exploit (in SuperOneClick 1.6.5 or 1.7).

For those interested in knowing, this version of poot-debug.apk also works with the LG Dynamic (LG38C), which probably means that it also works with the LG Logic (LG35C). The only thing that is wonky is the screen resolution (fonts and text expand beyond the screen on the LG-D and LG-L screens @ 240x320 pixels).

Great job, giantpune. And, do you mind if I link to your original post (with your donation link) on xda? Thanks.

Here's a version of Poot make special for the h866c. Those of you that said you wanted to donate, my paypal address is giantpune at gmail dotcom. Download Poot-debug.apk from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

@tusukious
I'll take it all in $1 bills.

here you go heres a full guide

Huawei Ascend Y H866C POOTED!!!

Seriously?

If you are going to link to giantpune's .apk in "your" guide without linking to his original post, at least also link to his donation link (whatever your contribution was to the process, your huawei would still be rootless without giantpune's apk). That way, people can at least make an informed choice about whether they want to donate.

My two cents.
