You should be able to use the universal Androot
Softbank Sucks: Universal Androot works on Docomo ht-03a running 1.6

I did this with my HT-03A that is an HTC Magic 32B. It was really quick and easy.

Worked for me too. Rogers HTC Magic running 2.1.

Anyone know why when I try and use the UniversalAndRoot to download and install a new ROM all the phone does is lockup after reboot. Shows a screen with a little Android and a triangle with an exclamation mark on it.

I used UniversalAndroot with no problems what so ever on my magic running 1.6. It took about 5 minutes to root then another 10 to flash clockworkmod rec, load a cust rom (SuperFly TCBY 2.2) on my sd card then flash my phone. That is what I would reccommend.

At that android with the exclamation mark screen, try hloding home+vol up to get into recovery.
