Help Samsungs alarm clock sucks!

Mine has never failed to go off and works as well as any Play Store Alarm App I have ever messed with.

Notice the OP has gone silent after his rant? Bet he figured out how to use the alarm and is happy with it now.

I loath the default alarm clock. Hate it with a passion.

Alarm Clock Plus. Hands down the best one out there. More settings than you can shake a stick at. You can have tons of alarms, and best of all you can save them and your settings to the SD. Great in case you need to reset the phone..... you don't lose your alarms or your settings.

By design, the alarm will ring unless the alarm itself or your phone is turned completely off. The alarm's volume slider present in the alarm clock menu is independent of the rest of the phone. Even if you're on vibrate only, the alarm will ring. :)
The volume is independent, but not the ringtone. Maybe the OP forgot to set default ringtone?

Edit: Just realized that my comment is irrelevant. I had been setting alarms through Google Now, so I only received the alarm confirmation. But I see now by setting an alarm in the Clock app, that there is indeed a default alarm tone pre-set ("Melody") even if you don't configure one, and it is independent of the default ringtone in the phone. Sorry for the confusion.

when you set the alarm it asks you which days you want it to go off you need to select all the days you want only then it will work

I have been using it for the last two weeks and every single alarm has gone off when I expected.

I have no idea what happened in your case but it works fine for me.

Been using Samsung phones for the last few years and never had a problem with the alarm apps, they work great. :D

Probably just user error.

Same here. I haven't even looked at other alarms since the stock one has always served its purpose. I have at least 8 alarms set per day and its never let me down yet.

I wonder if the OP is on Verizon and the rest of you aren't? I'd like to know.

I've never really thought of third party alarm apps as being 100% reliable. Not that I've ever tried one, just didn't want to risk it.

The clock is the same on vzw phones.

Works fine on my phone. I mostly use alarm clock extreme though.

I use "Alarm Clock Extreme" for times that aren't critical. That said ...

I don't mean this to sound offensive, but is it too obvious to say that anyone that REALLY can't miss a time in the morning, or has time-critical activities to wake up for should maybe get an actual alarm clock? You can buy ones that work just fine for less than $10.00.

Hopefully, I'm not necroing...

My alarm (stock app) failed to go off this morning for the first time since I've had this phone. I double-checked the day, time and repeat settings and they are correct. I set another test alarm and it played its melody and vibrated the phone.

I had edited my first alarm (the one that failed) to go off ten minutes later than I had before and when I checked the settings, I noticed that somehow snooze had been enabled. Would that cause it to fail?

It shouldn't cause it to fail. Mine has been set that way since I've had the phone (which only failed to go off the first time I NEEDED the alarm).

Then I wonder what could've caused the failure. I'm going back to using an old fashioned alarm clock.

Assuming you checked the obvious items (sounds like you have) like volume... who knows. All of my Samsung phones have had an alarm fall on the first use then have worked flawlessly after that. *knock on wood*

It could be a number of things not related to the alarm function itself.

Did you reboot your phone while trying to figure out the issue? It may be something as simple as that.

I've been using the stock Samsung clock app since the S1. Never had an issue with using it, keeping multiple alarms, reliability, etc.

I've had my S4 since June and no problems with the stock alarm not going off. I have several alarms set per day. My wife has an S4 too and was having a problem of the alarm not going off. She was able to figure out the problem, something to do with the alarm settings. (Not sure what it was.)

I've only had an android since august and tbh I have not had any problems with the alarm, I have been able to add multi alarms. I especially like the "smart Alarm"

However I do find that the S4 relies on lots of ticks to sanction things so maybe one got missed :)

I have no idea how an alarm that stops making noise after just ONE MINUTE could ever be described as useful. Guess everyone here wakes up at the first noise in the morning.

I need most of a song to play, or at least the tension of "Hey, if you don't get up, this noise isn't going to stop!" that an alarm clock is supposed to induce. Utterly useless.

ahhh... thats why it has the smart alarm feature. It will start 2 minutes early, and slowly get louder and louder, going off for a total of 3 minutes.

If it only went off for one second it would be enough to get me out of bed.

You need to go to bed earlier.

My main question is this.Does the phone have to be on for the alarm of any app to work.I don't have any problems when the phone is on.But if I cut it off set the alarm nothing happens.called tech sp they said clear the cache ect.did all that same issue if my phone is off no alarm.if on it works.really for the money this phone cost you should be able to set a alarm cut it off to save battery and have something as simple as a alarm clock work.Maybe im missing something?

Use airplane mode to save battery. There are apps that can re-enable the radios on a schedule if you are worried about forgetting.

I don't know about the S4, but most smartphones are like this (not just Android). AF is littered with threads about it, because everyone had a dumbphone that did it (I did too) and so it's what your used to, but it's just how most of these devices work - off really means off, OS off, so no apps running. You need hardware support if you want alarms to work in that state, or else for it not to really shut down, just enter a deep sleep.

If you mean you powered it down when you say "off", no, alarms won't work. Otherwise, yes, they do when the screen is just turned off. I used my S4 extensively this summer for an alarm clock in our RV. Worked EVERYTIME for 2 months and was super easy to set. I also use the countdown timer quite often, several times a week, and it always works also.
