Screen Turns on when new txt comes in

Is there a way to turn this feature off?

seems pointless for the screen to flash on when a message comes in. Waste of battery in my opinion.

Yes, you can control that in the notification settings of your sms application.

really? maybe I am missing something. I see an option to turn off all notification, but nothing more granular than that.

I don't see an option to turn off the 'wake screen' option with the stock message app. I use Handcent and it has the ability to turn off that option so I only hear the audio notification without turning on the screen. That seems strange to me, I didn't scrub the phone 'settings' to see if there is an option there to disable it.
