S23-No notifications show up on the off screen

On my new S23, I can't seem to get notifications to show up on my off screen. I'm not talking about the lock screen, just the off screen. Nothing shows up when the screen is completely off. I was able to show notifications on the off screen on my S21. Does anybody know if this is not possible on the S23?

look for the always on display or AOD. it should be under settings>lockscreen>toggle on always on display>show always or show for new notifications.
